The end of a most pleasing era - and another startling example of progress in the digital age, which increasingly makes ordinary things harder than they used to be.

Many thanks for all your dedication, Mike. And I hope you will not be discouraged from taking up your usual seat on Gimblett's Hill, where I expect to find you for the next thirty years or more.

I have always taken photos first and foremost for myself that will never change regardless of what happens in the future on this website.

It is part of my enjoyment of watching Somerset cricket.

Seems another site using the fact that they now have you over the bucket (so to speak) to make money out of you. Mostly because the time and effort required to move a photo library is considerable. Your photos have been a backbone of this site for many years Mike and it seems a damn shame. If we made the money that the hosts obviously think you do then I'd happily pay their damn ransom but we don't.

Really sorry to hear that Mike.

I have not been long on this site but soon learned the value of looking out for your photos. There have been some exceptional images and on more than one occasion your still image has captured the ball in a position which has explained a dismissal far better than the ECB's moving images have done.

For all you have done much thanks.

Very sad news for the site and all of us here. The excellence of Mike's photos is, almost certainly, the subject on which this forum comes as close as it ever comes to consensus.

I agree with SP about the value of the photos for those who haven't been able to get to the ground, but personally I often find it even more enjoyable to relive through Mike's stills the highlights of a day's play I've already watched and appreciated.

Well said Grockle re ransom etc. No doubt Photobucket (think what Warden Spooner might have made of that name) is a limb of one of the massive multinational companies which control the world in the name of the "free" market.

Yes the World Cup and ICC events are an example where the images from the event are tied up in protocols and permissions until an amateur taking photos for no profit but for their own interest are not allowed to do so for fear of prosecution by one such nameless organisation.

Just to add my appreciation as well. From someone who attends the games Mike TA1 and his photos always adds pleasure to the day when I check the website to see his photos of the days play upon my return and I very much appreciate his efforts. Thanks very much.

Only just discovered this sad news. I've often said that Mike's photos are the next best thing to being at Taunton. Thank you, Michael, for all the pleasure you have given with your years of pictures.

Would really miss your photos Mike, maybe you could find a site that's free? Can you see this from Facebook?

Thanks so much Mike.

Will miss your atmospheric shots greatly.

Scrumper, there is that option of finding another free hosting website, I am not registered with any of the social media websites so I am having to think about it.

A history on posting on this website -

I haven't got the exact date I started posting on here, the first hosting site I used was 'Imageshack' I posted 1291 photos using that site until they told me in 2012 I had exceeded their limit of 500 (I didn't know they had that limit) I had to pay a subscription if I wanted to carry on using their website.

So I started using ' Photobucket' in 2012, since then I have posted 2691 photos on here using 'Photobucket'. The worst part of the change in their terms and conditions is that all the hours I spent posting those photos on the Grockles website are gone and no longer available to see any more.

I am having to think long and hard on what I am going to do in the future, I don't want something like this to happen again.

There is a big backlash on Photobucket decision to charge for hosting some content on their website. There is even a petition on the web, what good that will do I don't know.

Amazon and eBay images broken by Photobucket's 'ransom demand'

There is a lot on the web about this from a lot of unhappy people.

Unfortunate, but just have to 'bite the bullet' I guess.

Looking at that article Mike, make sure that you have backed up all your images because this could put Photobucket out of business almost as quickly as they changed their terms and conditions.

I thought I would give you all the latest on posting photos on this site.

As you know photobucket wanted originally to charge $399 PA for third party hosting of photos on forums, some suggested using somebody else instead, that was an option but I want the 2000+ photos to reappear on this site by changing to another web site that wouldn't happen.

Up until the end of last year they had the cheek to offer $10 off that amount (emails nearly every day of the week).

Now for the this year.
They must made a bad mistake charging $399 because since the year started I have had about eight emails offering third party hosting for $99 PA for none commercial third party hosting.

Seeing that the season will not be long before cricket starts I am considering taking up that lower offer of $99.

Grockles: can't we crowd-fund this? I'd happily send Mike a tenner towards his £99...not sure on the practicalities of getting it to you, but it must be possible...?

SP2, it is $99 that is just under £72.

That is why I am considering paying for it,

Funnily enough Shepton as March 1 came around I was putting together a proposal to do just that. We all have benefitted from Mike's completely altruistic photo work over almost 2 decades and I can see NO reason why he should pay for this.

Does anyone know of a funding site where we could set up something for us to get the money together from the people on here?

I'm happy to set this up and will fund Mike in advance for this so I'll contact you via PM Mike.

I would have paid the 300 odd without doubt. We gain so much as a site and I have never really paid Mike a penny for it all... we are just a big charity for you all really (Sm22)

OK, sounds good. I'm definitely in for a tenner - just as soon as somebody advises on how...
