Four or five thoroughly deserving cases, but I think we'll find there's a standout.

It's a walkover really, given how seam/swing friendly conditions were in the first two games.

Someone up there is rewarding Somerset for doing the right thing in cancelling Bancroft's contract.

Matt Renshaw's centuries were special, however we are Abell of greatness.
He oversaw the taking of 40 wickets, made 82 against expectations to set up a challenging target for Yorkshire and brought himself on to break an important partnership

Lewis Gregory also deserves to be mentioned in despatches. He has taken key wickets at the beginning of most (each?) innings and, from what I have seen rom the highlights, has swung the ball prodigiously at times.
In recent seasons, he often looked to me to be careworn when walking back to his mark. Perhaps this was attributable to the constant pain he was apparently in - and, if so, his recent operation may have made a significant difference both in relieving the pain he was suffering from and to his performance as a bowler.

yep, if Matt Renshaw had scored only one hundred then it would have been harder for me to choose.

Personally, the nature/manner of the second one would trump anything else, even if it were the only ton that he'd made.
Let's face it, without that first innings knock, we may very well have made the sort of score (96), which our visitors did go on to make..

May I make my usual plea that these awards cover matches of the same format? I am happy to vote in this poll, as only CC matches are involved. And I'd be happy to vote again, once to cover the CC matches from 4th May to 25th June and once for the whole 50-over campaign, then again for the whole T20 campaign and finally for the remaining CC matches from 12th August to the end of the season.
Grockle: Of course you don't have to take any notice of the above and I don't have to vote!

Can't argue with the votes, but I think Tim G. & Josh Davey deserve a mention in despatches. They've both bowled excellently in the Worcs. & Yorks. games, meaning the opposition very rarely had any bad deliveries to enjoy.

As do I, Grizz. Indeed, were the choice to be Matt Renshaw v The Bowling Unit, the poll result should be a dead heat

Surely the bowlers were simply exploiting helpful conditions- so doing what they should do.
But Renshaw making two hundreds in unhelpful batting conditions was a much bigger contribution (the difference between winning, or losing).

Some might consider that a somewhat simplistic and a tad uncharitable Chunky.
Haven’t looked at the Middlesex stats., but 16 wickets at an average of around 16 and economy rates of 2.7-2.9 is pretty impressive as far as I’m concerned.
It’s one thing saying they were just doing their job, quite another to seeing them actually do it so well.
How are your chaps doing ?

April - Poor weather, green pitches and stupid scheduling with a lack of match practice.
Renshaw has nothing to lose, straight from the Ashes, by his own admission he just took it to the bowlers. So if he was out cheaply, what is that Blackbird song anyway?
Abell though has considerable pressures always. A Captain's performance which became more apparent is just what we must have to mount an effective challenge.
Elated for the Renshaw bonanza, but the result is not unanimous

What surely makes Matt Renshaw`s contribution outstanding was that, as he himself admitted, at the age of 22 he had never seen green, seaming wickets before.
Obviously not in Australia; not in India (certainly not in India) where he toured with the Aussies; and not for his one Test in South Africa when he replaced Cameron Bancroft.
And he had only been in this country for five days on holiday, when he was called to Taunton and had less than a week in the nets.
Must have been quite a surprise when Leach, Barnard, Brooks and Coad started bending the ball like a banana.

I agree completely with you, Chunky.
Truth be told, I didn't think we bowled particularly well in the first innings vs Worcs, anyway, as the guys were, understandably, very rusty. Indeed, I wouldn't even say that we necessarily out-bowled Worcs in that match (though we certainly out-caught them and Renshaw and Hildreth out-batted them). Certainly, Barnard was the best bowler on either side in that match, without question.
Our bowlers got better in the second innings and improved again vs Yorks, as one would expect. The unit certainly did very well in both innings vs Yorks.
But you have to look at the conditions. If we'd just played a couple of games on millponds, I'd be looking for a bowler for whom to vote (should any have impressed), rather than just going for a batsman that had made lots of runs.

Trent Bridge 2015, day one, is a good illustration of what you'd expect to happen when Australian Test batsmen face good bowlers in overcast conditions. Even Chris Rogers and Adam Voges managed just a single run between them. What Renshaw has achieved in two out of four innings so far is staggering.
And Chunky is wrong. Somerset's bowlers haven't just been exploiting helpful conditions. There was nothing at all helpful about conditions on Monday: bright sunshine that left me, at least, sunburnt. It was just that the Somerset attack was so unrelentingly skilful and accurate that it looked like they were bowling in helpful conditions.

Matt Renshaw has played in England before for the Australia U-19's:
There are also a number of batters who have scored 150+ runs in their 4 innings so far, James Hildreth, Pope, Foakes, Borthwick, Northeast and so on (Amla 200 from 5).
Perhaps the performance is more outstanding at Somerset given the performance of our other batters. Anyway, to square the circle, how come no other county went for him and we wanted Bancroft instead?

I think we listened to Langer's recommendation (which seems to have been ill-judged, as indeed does Australian selection policy).
