Thanks Wsm.

Fingers crossed Craig's elevation to the England Team will provide further inspiration for Jamie.

As he is only playing 4 games from mid july i am very glad.

We start Apr20. We need a quality top 3 batter for that period first.
Chances of a quality batter Apr to Sept virtually none so we need to accept it may be 2 or 3 players but we have 14 games to cover. Last year i think Dean played 6 matches. We then played 8 without an overseas.
That can't happen again.
In Mr Cooper we trust.....

We came within a whisker of winning the championship 2016 & didnt get relegated under Maynards tenure.
Pick it to pieces but they are the facts.

Push comes to shove he failed . Brought in to win things. My opinion is he wasn’t up to it and blind faith ain’t changing that

I also think he had an alarming mix of complacency (viz not seeking to replace Elgar during the SA series) and then a tendency to give up too easily when it became clear that we would need to secure a replacement for the period after the Eng vs SA series.

Anyway, he's gone. And, as WSM rightly says, we must NOT have a repeat of a situation where we manage to secure an overseas pro for a paltry six of 14 CC1 matches.

Dom Bess played in England Lions (160-6) 12 run win over Perth Scorchers (148-9).

Top performers with the bat were Nick Gubbins (31 off 23) and Liam Livingstone (36 off 30). Dom took 1-5 in the only over he bowled whilst star bowler was Saqib Mahmood (one of four Lancashire players in the team, alongside Livingstone, keeper Alex Davies and new signing Keaton Jennings) whose figures of 4-0-14-4 are exceptional for a T20 match. Mark Wood took 1-33 from his four overs as he pushes for a place in England's Test team for Thursday.

Shame the 'pitchers' aren't better but you are right as far as this man is concerned.

Alastair Cook was quick to praise his long-term mentor, Graham Gooch, for his return to form in Test cricket, but it turns out there was another coach whose influence might have been just as important.

In the early months of this year, with his career seemingly at a crossroads, Cook made his way to a sports hall in Oxfordshire to consult Gary Palmer. Dropped from the ODI side and without a Test century for almost two years, Cook was far more concerned about his decline than his calm appearance may have suggested. The decision to work with Palmer was almost a last resort.

The Times today suggests that Craig could well be ahead of Finn and Ball for a place in first test and cites his batting and also his slip fielding.
However article also says that he adopt the same on the knees style as did MT. I did not see that on the bits I saw.

Chances increasing daily as Finn due to have a scan on a sore knee today (more worryingly Moeen also being scanned for a sore side)

Tour match against Western Australia in Perth starts tomorrow (Saturday) at 2.30am Somerset time (GMT+8).

Forecast is a hot 30 C, that's the first issue for us.

England have named a 13 man squad less Finn, Ali and Foakes (he is fit) so presumably including Craig. His spot will be contested by Ball and maybe it will be Balance or Malan?

As to the selection of Mason Crane, well good luck to him.

Australian media says Mitchell Johnson may not play so no singing that song for the time being.

Justin Langer is current coach.

Don't expect fireworks as it's a friendly

We play against a Western Australia Cricket Association XI, not the full state side I believe.

Can't wait to see how we go.

A glass half - empty or a glass half - full?
Regardless, both glasses need filling up.
