U19 and other little bits

Sparsish crowd at the ground for the England v India U19. Shame really India have some very talented bowlers on show. Tom Lammomby made 31 in an under par score of 222 wiith a lad called Brooks taking 17 off the final over with two huge sixes over to the gap between the Trescothick and Somerset stands.

Banton didn't do a lot with the bat but is keeping in this game. Assessment seems to be that 17 year old Lammomby is more of a red ball player with lots of shots, lots of time on the ball.

Presently watching Jamie Overton doing some bowling off a short run up with Jason Kerr behind the camera in the interval. 223 for India to win.

Look out for Prithvi Shaw who is wearing the number 100 for the Indian side.

He is already contracted to the BCCI and some IPL side. They call him the 'new Tendulkar' and everything we've seen up to now seems that he may be something special. Certainly the right size and as smooth as silk forward and back.

Excellent run out of Rana by a lad called Patterson-White who literally skimmed the outside of the leg stump as the Indian's took a mid wicket pushed single. He kissed the stump because it only dislodged the off side bail so it must hhave been within a hair's breadth of missing. Excellent 34 for 1 in the 6th.

Young Lammomby is on and bowling after 8 overs - medium pace and nice action.

112 for 2 after 22 and it is really just a case of when India will win this one. I missed most of the English innings but the reports are that this young side have some excellent spinners and useful pacemen. They certainly have some quality batsmen as mentioned above.

Prithvi looked superb until he lost concentration and flapped one to Lammomby off Patterson-White but Desai who is on 38 presently (and wears shirt number 99) is also a highly competent batsman at such an early age.

It has been suggested that maybe we could do worse than sign these two boys up at the end of the this tour and get them to stay on for a couple of games,

No info about any announcement relating to international signings today though I am afraid. So it is doubtful there will be anything new for Chelmsford.

As you say the Indians seem to be in a different league in this game. Shame about the sparse attendance especially that hardly any youngsters in the ground. The game wasn't advertised enough, I think.
Also I think it is very sad that we never fly the national flag, as opponents always do, but instead the ECB pennent. They are playing for England not the ECB. I suppose it could be worse; it could be the Waitrose flag and probably will be one day.

Mike said it wasn't even on the club's website for ages, so little wonder that it was not known about.

And the ECB pennant is a pretty drab affair as well. An excellent low diving catch to dismiss Krishnan from Banks. Full blow through the covers pouched in both hands falling forwards.

148 for 4 in the 32nd.

Is there any reason why we can't have the cross of St George and the ECB pennant. It was the cross of St George when the Women were playing but that was an ICC event.

It seems that the Indians wanted the national flag AND the BCCI one but we can't do 2 on the Caddyshack it seems.

172 for 5 as Finch catches Abhishek off the bowling of Brookes. Not over yet though they only need 41 in 12.2 overs.

It should have been advertised in the local 'papers and around the town. Maybe it was on local radio but I don't listen to that so don't know. It all needs more effort. During term times we obviously just notify the schools but there many families holidaying in this area now and may have loved a day of international cricket if only they knew about it.

And there is little else here for the next month. Next game on the 12th September.

Ridiculous that the ground will stand empty for that amount of time.

And Potts gets Salman - 194 for 6 caught by Jacks.

And a legside strangle of Chahar by Brookes keeps it interesting. 217 for 8.

Excellent final over from Brookes with everything going past the bat and the number 11 doing well NOT to hit any of them.

218 for 9 with 3 overs to go and one wicket needed. It's all become quite exciting for the 600 watching.

Hard flash ties the game with the ball just out of Banton's reach.

Three Yorkers on the toe keeps them honest. Potts keeps the man with the score at the River end with an excellent series of Yorkers.

2 overs 1 to win or a wicket to tie.

Trevaskiss to bowl spin for the 49th facing Ishan the number 11. Maiden for the 49th and Potts to bowl the last one to Nagakoti on 22.

Ball one dot off a full toss

Ball 2 forced through and India win by one wicket with four balls to spare.

Well done guys - great ending to what seemed to be a predictable result but became quite exciting with the help of a few Indian batsmen and some decent English bowling. Still India win the series 5 - 0

The player of the series chosen by the opposition for England is Tom Lammomby - so there is one to watch for us. They thought he was especially good at playing spin.

The Indian man of the series though he didn't play in the game here was Shubman Gill
