It's ok Bagpuss my fault, I have removed it so people don't start posting on two different threads.

Well, no surprise.

We'll see what happens.

The obvious questions surround AH's experience viz the non-coaching aspects of the DOC role i.e. contract negotiations, persuading players to sign, player scouting etc and whether or not there will be a dedicated replacement (as specialist bowling coach) for Jason or whether he'll try to do both roles?

Of course, there will also be a question as to whether we will have a specific batting coach and, if so, who will get the job?

Of course, the biggest question to be directly considered by the AH/JK duo is the one of 'how the hell do we make sure that we don't start the season badly?' What can/should they do differently? Views anyone?

My own is that the most important thing of all is to avoid preparing against mediocre CC2 outfits if at all possible. If CC1 outfits aren't prepared to play against us (although Lancs had agreed last time before they double-booked themselves) then I'd rather we try to find some sort of half-decent opposition abroad against whom we could play, if at all possible.

That seems like a proper Somerset appointment.

we were told by Lee Cooper there was unlikely to be an overseas pre season tour in 2018.
And this was stated after the announcement of MM leaving.

Congratulations to both. I find it reassuring that those making the appointments ought to have a very good idea of the appointees' capabilities. (While I take AG's point that some of the qualities needed for the new roles might not yet have been fully tested, that is almost always the case with people who receive a promotion.)

Matt Maynard might go back to Glamorgan it seems.

The headline says 'would consider returning to Glamorgan' it looks like he is putting his name in a hat.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

I wonder if that means that Glamorgan fans could have the exciting signing of one J Allenby esq to look forward to?

I suspect that such a signing would go down like a lead balloon.

Interesting that Maynard states that he has always been both HC and DoC in all of his roles that he's had, bar England.

Sounds like they won't have to worry about Allenby coming back, if MM is only in the running as batting coach, however.

Top bloke Matt, I hope you get that Glamorgan appointment and they win well.

We need a Sangakkara equivalent on form at the start of next season. This will take the pressure off the lower order and allow some batsmen rotation as necessary.

Medium term we need to look to fill the bowling gap when Cove is playing for England next summer if other injuries are likely to prevail.

Hurry and Kerr - onwards and upwards

Perhaps they'll send Meschede back - we need to rebuild our Craig component.

Surely Maynard and Allenby have divorced?

Allenby might have been Maynard's man 3 years ago- but I doubt that's true now.

When that possibilty was suggested when the Welsh were at Taunton, it was met with 'no chance'

Yes, indeed, I have have heard the same.

Perhaps Mr Allenby will return to another former club, Leicestershire, instead?

I think good news re these appointments. Wouldn't think they would meet with much/any resistance from the players.

One wonders what AH's stance will be re the likes of Peter Trego & Johann M. re the four day format ?

PT fell out of favour (with good reason given dip in form) for a large part of the season & generally seemed out of sorts. JM clearly wasn't even considered, despite indicating publically that he was fit & keen to play. I know his 'other' career beckons, but just wonder if he might play a role in our Championship squad under the new management ?

Lastly, I've not seen any comments re CR's future role. Any news ?

Not sure how many times this can be said.

Johann will be released from his full-time occupation for white ball tournaments. He will not be available for the season.

AG made the supposition that JM made himself available at the end of the season but was 'ignored' without any plan.

We actually do not know what happened at the end of the season in terms of the relationship between the player and the club. The whole theory was based on one conversation and a sentence in it at the start of September and nothing else.

It was JM himself who said he was keen, willing and able to play Grockle.

He said it when doing a stint as a guest on the BBC radio commentary on one of our one day games. Heard the exchange myself & he was very clear that he wanted to partake in the longer format.

I appreciate his other career may not allow him to do so henceforth however.

Yes he did Grizzz. It was at the beginning of September and on the basis of that one statement we had a complete hypothetical critique of Maynard's reasons for discrimination against Myburgh for most of the month from our regular psychic analyst.

I have no idea why JM did not play for the last month and I have no idea if this was discussed with him in any way over the 3 weeks in September. I do not know if his earlier injury re appeared (there was no indication that it did). I know nothing at all about the relationship between player and his boss.

I was told why it was done and what Maynard's role in it was on a pretty regular basis by someone with the same level of knowledge as myself.

Myburgh's feelings about this were also analysed and criticism of the ex DoC was pretty unforgiving.

All based on pretty much JM's comment on that interview and @#$%& all else.

JM didn't play and he won't play 4 day next year. We are lucky he'll play white ball if his form is the same as last year. Any chance we can leave it at that now?

Curiously aggressive response Grockle ?

Actually, Grockle, it sounds like there two separate interviews, because Grizzly heard this during a one-day game, he says. I heard it during the Surrey CC match which was not in September, but rather in early August (started on August 7).

Again, nobody has ever provided a remotely credible reason as to why what Myburgh said during that match should have been considered untrue. But never mind...
