I doubt Gregory will do 'better' performance wise elsewhere.

After a while, what you are is what you are.

But he has done well enough that a number of counties consider him to be a desirable property.

Finally, a question to ponder. How many players have left Somerset and done substantially better elsewhere ? Wes Durston arguably did so perhaps and IDB (not ITB ) maintained his form at Durham. Am sure I have forgotten some others, but the list is surely not a long one.

Grizzzly

Luke Sutton and Giles White had quite good careers. Haggett seems to be improving. I don't know how to place Buttler, for it could be said that he has had very little impact on Lancashire.

The list is not long Grizzz

Callum Haggett seems to be making a name for himself at Kent

James Burke had a slight burst at Surrey

Jamie Groves did nothing at Leicestershire

Steff and Mark Turner did some stuff at Derbyshire

Craig Meschede tried his luck at Glamorgan but hasn't really made huge waves

Ian Bishop had a season at Surrey and then was back in the Devon leagues

Gareth Andrew had a little bit of fame with the 'Mongoose' in his later years at Worcestershire

Compo of course was homesick

Ben Trott had a flash of fame at Kent

Neil Edwards didn't shine as a Notts opener and neither did Matt Wood

any more?

Richard Harden, who went to Yorkshire and left without distinction.

Zander de Bruyn did some stuff after leaving.

So....468 for 7 210 ahead and still some to shift.

Hopefully that will be the job in the morning and then a non collapsible Somerset lineup gets the points and we move on.

Otherwise? Depression city by just after lunch perhaps.

Are all three results on again?

Botham of course did have some success at Worcestershire, before moving to Durham.

Graham Atkinson (a hero of MY era) had a couple of good seasons with Lancs.
James Bryant did little for us and less for Derbyshire.
Neil Burns played his best years with us.
Nigel Felton did a bit for Northants.
Daren Foster - did he go to Glamorgan? I don't think he achieved much there.
Allan Jones had his best years with us.
Roland Lefebvre did quite well for Glamorgan
Haydn Sully had a good career with Northants
Roy Virgin - ditto

Not much point in including the overseas players of proven Test quality.

I'd say Gareth Andrew did well at Worcs, known for more than just the Mongoose.

Good to see George Dockrell back in the Ireland ranks in the one-dayer in Rotterdam - and with an early wicket.

Paul van Meekeren took 1-20 in the match, which the Netherlands won by four runs.

No rest for the in-form cricketer.

Forty-eight hours after his major role in Somerset`s win over Notts, Roelof van der Merwe was in Rotterdam today, taking 2-24 and scoring 37 in the Netherlands` four-wicket 20/20 victory over Ireland.

A wicket for Paul van Meekeren, too - 1-33.

Well if he is 'as commited to Somerset as ever" he'll have a look at the four and sign to stay or he wasn't all that committed in the first place and should commit in a stronger way to a new home.

I have been offered a six-figure sum to discontinue my connection with this website, dating back to July 2003, and sign up exclusively for another but have decided to remain with Grockles just for the fun of annoying everybody.

Viv Richards says some nice things about Somerset, and especially Taunton, in Saturday’s Telegraph (back page of the Magazine). He evidently still loves the place.
