BLAST! Hampshire Déjà Vu

New Zealand all-rounder Colin Munro, currently listed by the ICC at No.4 in the world rankings of 20/20 batsmen, is unavailable for Hampshire against Somerset tomorrow. He has left to fulfill his contract with the Caribbean Premier League.

Dwayne Bravo has left Middlesex for the same reason, so Somerset were astute in signing Jerome Taylor, knowing he had no CPL commitments.

Hampshire 20/20 regulars Fidel Edwards, Kyle Abbott and Lewis McManus are currently playing for Hampshire Seconds at Taunton Vale, as preparation for the returning county championship, so will have to make quite a dash if they are to appear at the Ageas Bowl tomorrrow.

Meanwhile, Dale Steyn flew into Southampton yesterday for the remainder of the Hampshire season, but will only be able to play tomorrow if he is 20/20 registered.

Somerset have named the same 13-strong squad that has been on duty for recent matches, with Craig Overton and Josh Davey added to the 11 who won at Sussex on Sunday.

I can see no obvious reason to make any changes to the final XI unless, perhaps, somebody is deemed to be in need of a rest.

If Steyn was named in the Hampshire squad I was going to retitle this thread Don't Steyn On My Parade.

Josh and Craig especially might not like it ,but the longer you leave them on the sidelines, they'll come out all firing in the CC game with Essex.

Tweet from club earlier:

Tom Banton is rated as 50:50 to play after suffering a dislocation to his finger in training. Steve Davies would return if Banton misses out.

Yet another injury suffered in training? 🙈

Haven't done any research to verify, but it does seem that the bulk of our injury problems this year have arisen from incidents outside of the field of play.

Do you suggest they shouldn't train?!!

Not suggesting they shouldn’t train Shepton Paul, but Grizzly does have a point.

Anyway, not a bad replacement waiting in the wings if Banton isn’t passed fit. Big chance for Davies to put in a performance to give the club an added selection dilemma for the remaining 3 T20 group matches.

No SP, simply making an observation.

It just seems odd. Don’t recall it happening to this extent in prior years.

And no I’m not blaming anyone !

Only the size of Somerset's win should be in doubt tomorrow. Hampshire's T20 campaign has been an absolute disgrace. Liam Dawson is contrite about it on twitter, but it is more than the mantra of 'never got going'. 32-7 against Glamorgan, 6-3 at Beckenham and 20-5 in the home return against Kent. Deep down, they must think they can't chase anything...because they haven't chased anything. What awaits tomorrow? 30-6? Narrow loss or humiliating thrashing? Refunds and rain would be merciful.

Munro has thankfully left- which isn't to scapegoat him- and any of the batsmen warrant dropping.

This is one of five dead rubbers for Hampshire and ideally they would all be rained off.

Steyn might be back and we know how he 'acclimatised' last time in the RLC as Somerset walloped him for 80 in ten inglorious overs.

The season has been an absolute disaster and heads need to roll- starting with the Whites and mediocre former players on the staff. Time for Ervine and Adams to retire. Hampshire have missed out on Norwell and bowlers will be of the essence for winter recruitment.

Writing Hampshire off like that will probably ensure a victory for them tomorrow. I have often seen it happen before.

How tight is all this now. No slip up tomorrow please!!!!

Somerset 10 7 3 0 0 0.892 14

Kent 10 5 2 0 3 0.777 13

Glam 10 6 3 0 1 0.439 13

Gloucs 9 6 2 0 1 0.353 13

Surrey 9 5 3 0 1 1.195 11

Sussex 9 4 3 0 2 0.05 10

Surrey play Sussex, Somerset and Gloucester the next 5 days. Surrey and Sussex to fall away would be the ideal scenario for all concerned.

Tom Seymour - Hants 01 is a Hants fan, not Somerset.

He also said that we were "certain," to beat Hants in the CC game ...........and we did not.

A team with Steyn, RR, Vince, Fidel Edwards, Abbott and Rahman carries obvious potential danger.

There can be no disputing that Hants have, indeed, been dreadful as Hants 01 rightly says. But they are at home, and maybe they will summon some pride?

We shall see.

Kyle Abbott is currently batting for Hampshire Seconds at Taunton Vale, so he is going to have to move some if he is to make the 6.30pm 20/20 start at Southahmpton. Wicket-keeper Lewis McManus was out just before lunch, so he would have a little more time.

Hampshire around 190-6, chasing 371. Three for Dom Bess for about 70, and two for Jack Leach, for a remarkable 24 runs in 20 overs.
