BLAST! Surrey Home and Away

England opening batsman Mark Stoneman is included in the Surrey 20/20 squad for the first time this season for tonight`s match against Sussex at The Oval and tomorrow at Taunton.

He takes the place of Aaron Finch, ranked by the ICC as the world`s leading 20/20 batsman, who has returned to Australia for family reasons. Surrey add 18-year-old wicket keeper Jamie Smith to their 15-man squad for the two matches.

It also includes 36-year-old Rikki Clarke, who I see the England selectors were considering as a replacement for Ben Stokes against India today, 14 years after his last Test match, before settling for Chris Woakes.

The weather forecast for London this evening is none too good.

Surrey squad: Dernbach (c), Batty, Borthwick, Burns, Clarke, Tom Curran, Foakes, Jacks, Maddinson, Morkel, Pillans, Roy, Smith, Stoneman, van den Bergh.

Stoneman replacing Finch.

Well, the cards have fallen very well from a Somerset perspective.

Would that every team could be so lucky.

(Finch returned to Oz because of a family bereavement)

I think I have worked out, that with contending teams obviously playing each other, that it is not possible for 4 teams to exceed our total of 16 points and therefore we are mathematically through to the next stage. I also think (with a little less surety) that 1 more win will put us on 18 points and it will not be possible for 2 teams to exceed that and with only Surrey likely to better our NNR should see us well placed for a home quarter.

Today's game might yet happen ... even if it's only a 6 over slog..... one point for each side would certainly be decent for us, keeping both Surrey and Sussex down.

Somerset again name the same 13-man squad, with Steve Davies keeping wicket as Tom Banton`s finger injury has not yet healed.

Craig Overton and Josh Davey are the two missing out at the moment - and will probably remain so until a home quarter-final is assured.

I was, as should have been apparent due to my specific reference to keeping Surrey and Sussex down, referring to their match, in direct response to Railboy's post, immediately prior about "other contending teams playing each other.'

And, no, I wasn't going to create a separate thread especially for Surrey vs Sussex to say that.

Seems a good crowd going into the ground, I have just seen about thirty chaps in long white coats entering the ground.
I could think of several occupations that involves white coats.

They were all streaming out of the Princess Royal about 3:45 so I think they may have had a few.

There is a 'buzz' about the place that has usually gone by now in the group stages for us by this point. A lot of people already in and all the car parks are full.

Gotta hope we keep the winning thing going. We're chasing again...

Tom and someone muck up a sky high catch and then the same batsman does the same thing next ball and Johann calmly catches it. Maddison out 20 for 2.

You have to watch the Taylor catch from Roy. It is inspired. One handed. Still not sure how it stuck!! Roy gone 24 for 3
