England toiled away on a flat pitch on day one of this test match as Sri Lanka finished on 229 for the loss of 4 wickets.
Angelo Mathews was unbeaten on 107 as Sri Lanka look to post a big first innings score.
It was a struggle for England’s bowlers, other than James Anderson that is. The veteran seamer ended the day with figures of 3 wickets for 24 runs from 19 overs with 10 maidens.
The figures of him and Stuart Broad in the first test show that the two ‘old men’ seem to be getting even better with age and both are still England’s best bowlers on any surface.
Mark Wood took the other wicket as the spinners went wicket less from their combined 40 overs bowled.
