Beefy Roberts reports from Lord's on Day three of the match v Leicestershire. Many thanks to Beefy for stepping into the reporters shoes after the original reporter changed his mind. Sorry you are named and shamed!! As well as a detailed report of the cricket we hear about Corrie and Mr Wasp.
This is a very late substitution, as Mr Kimmy,AKA Spillage lost his bottle after being asked to make his debut report. So I had to jump in for him, but at least he did provide the pen and paper for me, so kind!!
The view today starts from the pavilion, top tier and behind the bowlers arm. Of course, after being dismissed cheaply, Leicester have been asked to follow on 303 runs behind, we open as usual with Murts from Nursery end,Corey Pavilion end.Murts to Boyce and a very loud LBW appeal but to high, couple of balls later Jefferson drives Murts for 4 runs to the nursery end,Murts could of stopped the ball with his foot, but thought twice about it, no injuries this late in the season please! Jefferson also had a couple of edges off Murts, he will be out soon, and we are sure.
With 11 overs gone, they are 21 without loss first bowling change Crook for Corey, and Crook is getting some movement with Boyce living a charmed life out there. Our discussion turns to the seats in Pavilion, the bench style seats are not the most comfortable, they get worse as the session goes on,bit of a numb backside!!.Soon our first breakthrough as Crook bowls Jefferson for 19,its 29-1 as the ball finished behind the advert hoardings on the nursery end,Smith comes in and we hope this is the start of the end.
As requested, I send Kev a text update of the wicket falling,he replies very quickly, saying thanks for the update but the text woke me up as its 5am here, sorry mate!
At 12.10 Boyce finally reaches double figures 11 runs in over an hour, the 50 was up in 19.2 overs, bit heavy going.Mr Kimmy offers to help me,its fine I reply just get me another coffee!
Ollie comes on at Pavilion end,and Rogers puts all the protective gear on and fields at silly point,Ollie has the ball moving,LP saying that he got one ball to go from off to leg stump, looking really good, but had to watch his foot as very close to edge of the crease, umpire mentioned it to him.
WKT,its now 77-2 and Boyce finally goes back to the pavilion,LBW Collymore for 31,and Corey was a very happy bowler with his wicket,Newman,Davey and Robbo walk in front of grandstand towards the nursery end, going for a net gents?
At lunch they are 79-2
Crook to Taylor,a massive appeal goes up for caught behind, umpire was unmoved, but we find out later that Kevin Hand said he hit the ball and was out.88-2,this is very slow, cautious batting. We just want the wickets to fall so we can get the points, and finish the game(so do the players).
In the pavilion,a few of the stalwarts are moaning about the seats, and they were MCC members, would of thought they would be use to them by now!
Ollie to Smith from Pavilion end,a dropped catch by Simmo,we were not sure, but people behind us say in carried,oh well,it happens at times,no problem with it.148-2 and JD is on at pavilion end.
We decide to move from the chill breeze at the pavilion and go to our usual spots in the lower tavern in the sun(was this forecast,we ask?)Malan on for JD at the pav end. And,as tea gets closer i start to worry, will we bat again? i start asking as these two are very comfortable.,17 overs to the new ball and tea is here, with the score on 203-2,no wickets in that session.
Murts is on from Pavilion end for a change,it works! WKT,and 209-3 Smith has gone bowled by Murts for 84,good innings, but come on now,as LP says 1 brings 2.
Crook to Taylor,a great ball but umpire signals no ball,i need to take a wicket break, and as usual it works WKT and its 240-4 and Cobb has gone for 15,caught Simmo, bowled TRJ.Just how many has Simmo caught this season we ask?
LP quote,Leicestershire are -63 for 4.
Suddenly,we see,for second time this season,Andy West in the Lower Tavern,we ask how he managed to escape yet again, and has the tag been removed from his leg?
Another WKT,240-5 and Eckersley goes for a duck, caught yet again by Simmo, off TRJ to huge cheers, getting close now,the finishing line.Cloud cover returns, and the umpire signals to the pavilion to bring a jumper out for him,not seen that before.
New ball is used.
Quickly,it works as a WKT falls,259-6 White LBW Correy for 12,we have such an attacking field, can we claim the extra half hour we ask? LP starts to give updates from Coronation Street this week, thanks for that important news mate!
Another WKT falls, its 267-7 and Simmo again as the very dangerous, Taylor goes for 85,a Murts wicket. We all agree Taylor is very much a player of the future, only a small guy but got huge skills.Does he fancy joining the Middle?
284-7 and Corry to Naik who makes a wild swipe but misses the ball, they are 19 runs behind.
LP starts having an argument with a wasp,we all watch laughing as he starts it with the comment " just go away " no chance,Mr Wasp is heading back for more fun. " Bugger off,and leave me alone " is next up,Mr Wasp goes away, turns round and is back or more the final one to Mr Wasp is " you have been following me all day " Mr Wasp finally leaves LP alone, will he be waiting for him today?
With 5 overs left Crook is on for Corry and Leicestershire reach 300-7,all back tomorrow,as they get to 303-7 off 94.2 overs, they take the lead and finish on 308-7.But are really 5-7.
So,Friday will be a short day we hope, finish by lunch?
