Caddick Returns To England Squad

Caddick makes his comeback nearly two months after sustaining a rib muscle injury during the final Test against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford.

He replaces Craig White, who himself has just been sidelined with an abdominal strain.

Caddick has played in Somerset's last two championship matches to prove his fitness and is the only change from the 13-man squad which drew the second Test at Edgbaston last week.

But there are still concerns about the fitness of all-rounder Andrew Flintoff who was diagnosed as having a hernia.

England are hopeful he will be able to play his final match this week before going away for surgery, but if he fails a fitness test, Alex Tudor is the most likely replacement.

Glamorgan fast bowler Simon Jones is still not fit enough to make a return although the selectors are hopeful he will play for his county this week in a bid to provide competition for the final Test at the Oval.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney said: "Andrew is a key player for us and we'll have to see how he is after practice next week.

"We very much hope he'll be able to play but we do have other options available and we're not intending to add to the squad at this stage.

"Although it's disappointing to lose Craig White, there will still be plenty of competition for places for the Test as Andrew Caddick and Alex Tudor are both now back from injury and have been bowling well for their counties."
