Jones' Series Over Following "Tragic" Injury

The Glamorgan fast bowler is expected to be out for at least six months after scans revealed he had ruptured cruciate ligaments.

Jones twisted his right knee as he attempted to stop a Ricky Ponting drive racing to the boundary.

He was stretchered off the field and taken to hospital where the extent of the injury was confirmed.

"It was pretty tragic for the young man," said Fletcher.

"He has improved in every performance and we were looking forward to seeing him in the Ashes series and it is really unfortunate.

"We were looking to put him into our bowling attack - it was something Nasser (Hussain) was calling for as he is someone who can take two quick wickets."

Jones will need reconstructive surgery, a process which will sideline him until at least the start of the domestic season next year.

The operation will take place in the UK but, because of the nature of the injury, Jones is unable to fly back for a fortnight and will spend the next two weeks with the Academy in Adelaide.

"I haven't spoken to a medic but I think these injuries take about six months (to heal)," added Fletcher.

Surrey's Alex Tudor will remain with the senior side until the extent of all the injuries to England's bowlers is known.

"Tudor was always going to stay here until Gough came back, if he does come back," Fletcher told Sky Sports News.
