Darren Gough has been
left out of England's one-day squad for the tour to Bangladesh and Sri
Lanka. Middlesex opening batsman Andrew Strauss is the only uncapped player
included, while there is an immediate recall for Durham all-rounder Paul
Collingwood after his recent injury problems. There is also a return for Somerset all-rounder Ian Blackwell, a member
of England's World Cup and VB Series squads last winter. Chairman of selectors David Graveney insisted: "Darren Gough still
remains a selection option for the second part of the winter in one-day
cricket. "However, as part of our planning for 2007, the selectors needed to
look at other options regarding bowling bearing in mind the playing
conditions in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. "Andrew Strauss has performed well in both forms of the county game
this season and his inclusion will give us another batting option and also
maintain the high standards of fielding we are seeking to achieve in
one-day cricket." |
