The fifth one-day international between India and England in Guwahati has been called off after several inspections. The pitch was said to be unplayable and both team captains broke the news to their teams at 8:45.

The latest match would have been the 5th one dayer of the series but was abandoned due to the recent bad weather.

Umpires Rudi Koertzen and AV Jayaprakash inspected throughout the day but the clay-based ground was not ideal for drying and the match was abandoned at 0845 BST.

A helicopter was brought in to dry the areas surrounding the wicket after heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday.

There were wet patches in key areas and the groundstaff worked hard to get the ground fit but the conditions were announced not playable.

India have an convincing 4-0 lead in the seven-match series but England will be slightly glad the game is off as they have suffered a lot during this series.
