At last, Ged gets around tho posting the results of the Middlesex Test Players Test Competition. Many participated, several entered. But surely this is one prize that will be awarded to England rather than Australia this winter? Or is it?

Mark, one of the Mighty Turkeys, has set up an excellent photograph site for Middlesex supporters’ photos

Many of you participated in the Middlesex Test Player Test Competition.  A great many played with themselves, as it were, not submitting solutions.

Several submitted solutions to prove that they could do the puzzle but did not submit tie-breakers as they did not want the prize.

Four people submitted tiebreakers:

I would like a copy of Sixty Summers by Peter Cox because:

  • I support Middlesex, England and QPR and need cheering up badly (JC67);
  • I am fascinated by the history of the sport (Peter Rose);
  • I won't be Gatting it for Christmas and I don't have the Kash (Pete Church);
  • This is how long I have been supporting Middlesex, the greatest cricket club alive (Leon Winsky).

As Peter Cox supplied both the game and the prize, it seemed only polite to ask him to choose the winning tiebreaker.

Peter chose:

To quote my e-mail back to Peter:

Trust you, Peter, to choose the one contributor who lives in Aus”.

To quote Peter’s e-mail back to me:

“Oh sh*t.  Well, I did get a good response from OZ when I was there.  Took 10 books - not more because of the weight - and sold them in three days.  D*mn it, the man's in OZ and he still knows all the Middlesex Test players.  Isn't there a story there?”

Always an eye for the main chance, our Peter.

So, many congratulations to Peter Rose from Jimboomba in Queensland.  A copy of Sixty Summers by Peter Cox is wending its way from Finchley to Jimboomba as we speak.

A Rose by any other name…….  And I do wonder whether Peter Cox and Peter Rose is just some awful boat race pun.  But Peter (Rose), please let us know why someone in Jimboomba Queensland is so knowledgeable about Middlesex players.

And for those of you who simply want to see the answer to the puzzle, feast your eyes on the image below.

Many thanks to everyone who participated and to Peter Cox for providing the puzzle and prize.
