Player performance prediction game - UPDATE
Top of the tree, but how?

After a disappointing start to the LVCC campaign, here's something that's bound to bring a smile to all your faces - it's the update to this year's MTWD player performance competition. Twenty contestants have already signed up, but the good thing about this game is that you can join in whenever you like and mid season might just be the best time to join in and go on to win.....
HOW DID YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY?
Value over return – or at least that seems like the popular strategy at the moment. Only 9 players have so far had all 1,000 of their shares taken off the market – 8 of which were in the ‘Top 10 cheapest’ list at the start of the season. For those interested, the players in question are:
- Paul Stirling
- Josh Davey
- Tom Smith
- Andrew Strauss
- Adam London
- Daniel Housego
- Toby Rowland Jones
- Danny Evans
- John Simpson
Of course, 4 of these haven’t turned out in a championship game this season. Andrew Strauss performed steadily in his early appearances, but it is unlikely we’ll see him again. John Simpson and Danny Evans have both shown potential on the pitch and are thus both giving returns to their investors. Little can be said on Adam London at present.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is that two of this season’s better performers (Gareth Berg and Dawid Malan) are actually in the top 5 least purchased players – so for those of you that have some spare credit, you’d be well advised to get in there while you can. For those that haven’t yet signed up, don’t forget that it’s not too late – it’s all about the shares you hold at the end of the season!
AND THE STANDINGS ARE…
It’s difficult to judge who’s winning at the half way point – we won’t be seeing much of Strauss again, so that will surely open up opportunities for other players. Finn and Morgan are also both hovering in and out of the England set-up so their appearances may also be limited. More to the point, after a disappointing start, I’m sure the boys will be keen to improve on their own personal performances as we reach the second half of the season.
As for now, I’ve assumed that everyone continues to perform at their current average for the remainder of the season (so I’ve therefore doubled all runs scored and wickets taken to project the final totals). Profit wise, the standings currently look a little like this:

I'm kicking myself for spending almost all of my allowance at the start of the season. I realise now that those who have held back and observed up to this point are well placed to step in and pick up the top performing players.
I'll see if I can offload some of my duds, but I expect I'll have to take losses in the hope of building up a better position for the second half of the season.
What I really like about this game is the way it runs throughout the season so you can actively trade at any time as well as watching the players' performances unfold.
As for the bunny at the top - no comment - except to say that he has probably blown all his carrots in the first half and surely must be beatable.
As for my own table placing, I feel a tad uncomfortable sandwiched (as it were) between Barmy Jez and his lovely fiancée Sarah!
I'm also rather upset that I blew everything at the begining of the season. It seems as if the best way to win this game is to actually keep your credit in the bank for as long as possible. All those that join now will surely have an advantage over the rest of us.
On the plus side, I am ahead of Sarah and I'm taking heart that maybe she actually does listen when I talk about Middlesex - after all, we are so close in the league and therefore she must have picked similar players to those I went for!
