I've been looking forward to this day since that comprehensive win against Hants at MTS. There has been a long break from "proper cricket" and we are now having a CC match against Lanky one of our main rivals for the title. A win here and we can start believing. bring it on! On saying that I didn't get to ground until 11.30 and considered missing the after lunch session to watch France Ireland footie game,
I arrive at the the ground and Lanky are 20-0. I was advised by someone without prompting "for your report there were two edges that fell just short". Also our opening bowler was evidently announced as "Toby Roland Smith"
On the hour we were commenting on how slow pitch was and there's nothing in the wicket. Then Franco has Smith LBW deceived by his lack of pace. Nothing else to report till lunch it looks like a bore-draw 87-1.
Some joy during lunch perambulation Stirlo is awarded with his county cap. We bumped into Don who advised over rate is down from -2 to -1 over lunch.
Soon after lunch just as I was asked by Mick the question on whether I'm In or Out and as I was about to say how I feel about this global travesty, I was stopped in my tracks. That moment Proctor was Out well caught by Ollie at one that looked like dropping short. So that's all to report for this session. It's 176 -2, Hameed 80 not out . not looking in any danger. Apologies if there is too much detail here.
Final session bit like the first two. Hammed edged one caught by Robbo after some juggling just short of a ton , but well played that man-future England opener in the making. Then the stand out moment, Stirlo drops Croft an absolute dolly he could have caught in his county cap, this probably the worst drop I've ever seen and ended up being main talking point of the day. Shortly after Robbo missed a tough one at first slip. The run and wine rate increased. Peterson made his ton, Lanky finish 298-3. Today again I'm reporting from Lord's on a day not easy to watch.
It has to be said from a cricket perspective today was really hard work. One wicket a session and it was cold towards the end. It was the excellent company of Rogers and Out, Mick and Lanky Bumble, with some wine that kept me going. I’m still dreaming of seeing entertaining 4 day cricket in warm weather this year.

Well done for doing the report.
As I have just posted on the match thread, this was not an entertaining days cricket, certainly from a Middlesex members perspective, but like you the company around me was excellent, which helped make the day an enjoyable one.

Cheers for report Kev,looks like it was a hard day today.
Don't like the sound of the dropped catch,as both LP and yourself say same thing about it.

We needed a few more OUTS rather than INS.

It was unfortunate that one is forced to recall Stirling's miss, as Robson had taken a splendid catch earlier to dismiss Hameed.

Ollie was very good. He went straight over and gave Stirlo a pat and a handshake. I expected the next wicket over to get an "into the top right corner with plenty of follow through kick" as an expression of his frustration.
- Interesting to note that. - When an umpiring decision doesn't go his way, he lets rip. When it's a team mate, he holds back. Well done him.
