Middlesex nearly sunk by Poseydon Adventure
Not Out

After such a long break 12 days from first class cricket this felt almost like the first day of the season. Of course it's not let's just say for now we are well placed. This is my final away day, as tomorrow hopefully off on 2-week holiday
The journey was smooth arriving at Moor Street 10.43 in cloud and was surprised to hear having won toss and we are batting. With Ravioli suppose looking to spin them out 4th innings. I was disappointed to learn Murts and Stirlo playing for Ireland against Hong Kong, priorities really!!
I missed first 10 minutes, in that time there was a close run out off first (no) ball, Gubbo scored his 1000 runs for season and Robbo out. Soon after Gubbo caught and bowled at 8 for 2, it is not looking good. The progress was very slow in seaming conditions. We are on 26 for ages and biggest cheer of morning from large Middle contingent when single to take the run rate to 1.4 . It soon slipped to 1.3. Trott appeared to be unplayable. After a couple of streaky 4s we accelerated with decent shots and 77 2 at lunch. I'd say we had the initiative. There was a worrying moment when Westwood received full impact of Mala shot at short leg and was relieved when he was able to get up.
Compo out from loose one soon after lunch. Now100 2. Mala soon out for 57. Simmo did not add too many and was out at short leg. Just before tea it was honours even until last ball Franco out LBW. The chief destroyer of the session was Poysden while danger man Jeetan Patel appeared to be easier to play.
Our aim was to achieve 250 and perhaps bat to the close. Ollie out for 1. TRJ was really struggling and not scoring quickly. Our final total 242, looked short , but never judge etc. This definitely looks a result wicket.
It was time to get cab to station with R & O as needed to catch 18.41, which in advance cost about a fiver otherwise a fortune to pay. No wickets from remaining 2 overs but heard Ollie opened bowling which is an indicator. Meanwhile, on our last away trip of season we shared the last of summer wine on amusing journey home.
I'm Canada bound, which is relief because Mrs was not fit to travel yesterday, but has made a recovery. Let's hope there is internet service there as will be glued to scores for this and two other games I return for Yorkshire game which surely will be. Shhhhh
