Pants Against Hants

Team on way home

Barnet Joe belatedly shares his experience of our 20/20 humiliation on Thursday.

An enjoyable evening at Lord's as Hampshire humble Middlesex.
There is always a special buzz walking to Lords from St Johns Wood station. I genuinely believe their is no sporting venue in the country that epitomises the sport it hosts. My only previous experiences of Lord's had been English test cricket but I was looking forwards to seeing a different format.
As the squads were revealed, I must admit feeling slightly underwhelmed by the lack of big names. Despite this, I was still looking forwards to what could potentially be an exciting encounter against 2 very similar sides. Middlesex opened up the batting and started strongly despite losing Gubbins in the 3rd over. An impressive run rate saw them 61-1 after 7. Unfortunately, Hampshire replied taking 2 quick wickets and slowing the Middlesex side down. Eskanazi made a very stylish 43 before being bowled by the impressive Crane. Middlesex stumbled their way to 136 all out and Hampshire looked set for a comfortable evening in the middle.
Vince and Rossouw quickly put on 42 before Vince was bowled by Helm. Despite losing George Bailey and Ryan Alsop, Rossouw continued to impress and put on a match winning 60 in a brilliant individual display. Entertaining shots and patiently picking up runs, this was a perfect openers innings in t20 cricket. Ervine and McManus cautiously chipped away at the Middlesex total and had it wrapped up with 15 balls spare. Comfortable enough for Hampshire who always looked in control of proceedings. Clever bowling helped them to victory and made it very easy for their batsman to express themselves.
As for me, I did enjoy the game despite the disappointing spectacle. Not every game can be littered with sixes and sometimes you have to appreciate good quality cricket. I'd recommend visiting Lord's to watch Middlesex in action, it's an experience and I cannot wait to go again.
