Pietersen Fury over DRS Claim

England batsman has reacted with fury over a claim in Australia that he used silicone tape on his bat, in order for edges to avoid detection on Hot Spot.....

Channel Nine in Australia overnight said that "It is understood that silicone tape is applied to the edge of the bat, and concerns centre around Kevin Pietersen's dismissal in the second innings in Manchester."

Whilst trying to tone down their attack on just one single player, they went on "It is not just England under investigation. Nine News understands that Australian batsmen may also be using this method."

Pietersen replied via twitter with "To suggest I cheat by covering my bat with silicone infuriates me. Such horrible lies."

DRS and in particular Hot Spot have come in for some furious backlash, not least in the last test match, with some edges not showing up, but snicko later proving an edge did occur on the bat.

Snicko is not yet used for assisting umpires, but the ICC plan to change this over the next year or so, as the system quickens up. At present it takes too long to build the snick-o-meter.

Pietersen himself, was given out in the second innings at Old Trafford, but used DRS when he thought he hadn't nicked the ball. Despite no hot spot on the bat, the third umpire ruled he had heard a noise and so went with the on field umpire.
