Lions victory in final match

Surrey beat Sussex by 37 in their final match of the season at Hove. Nayan Doshi finished an excellent season as he claimed 10 wickets in match. Rikki Clarke and Ali Brown also had a good match as they both scored centuries. This result mans Surrey finish third in the table.

Surrey won the toss and decided to bat but they were soon in trouble at 60 for 5. Rikki Clarke and Ali Brown then added 82 to help Surrey reach 142 for 5. Brown fell for 54 when he was caught by Martin-Jenkins with Mushtaq Ahmed the bowler. Bicknell then joined Clarke and together they added 86. This enabled Clarke to complete his century from just 83 balls. He was finally dismissed by Mushtaq Ahmed for 112 from 90 balls. Bicknell hit a useful 40 to push the lions score to 283.

Surrey then failed to take early wickets as Yardy and Montgomerie put on 47 for the first wicket. Once Bicknell removed Montgomerie for 25, Cottey and Goodwin fell cheaply. Adams then came and gave Yardy a uselful partner as they added 86, with Yardy completing his century. When Adams fell for 40, Sussex was in a strong position at 210 for 5. However the lower order collapsed and they were bowled out for 271, with Ormond claming four wickets and Doshi taking 3.

Jason Lewry then removed Newman and Clinton to leave Surrey 32 for 2. Butcher was next to go, when he was caught behind with Martin-Jenkins the bowler. Ramparaksh and Batty both hit useful scores to help Surrey reach 223 for 5. Ali Brown then came in and continued his good form with an excellent 123. Brown was helped by a patient innings of 9, from Martin Bicknell. When Brown fell Surrey were 311 for 9. Jason Lewry prevented Surrey adding to this score as the removed Ormond and Doshi both for a duck.

Surrey then reduced Sussex to 49 for 3, with Doshi picking up two wickets. Goodwin and Adams then added 101 to take the sharks into a strong position at 158 for 4. Prior then joined Goodwin and they also put on another big stand of 82.This enabled Goodwin completed his century. When on 39 Prior fell for 39 to Ormond. This left Sussex in a strong position at 242 for 5 and they looked on course for victory. Nayan Doshi then ripped through the Sussex lower order and captured the final five wickets, to guide Surrey to an amazing 37 run victory.
