Akram and Azhar sign

Surrey have announced the signing of Mohammad Akram and the re signing of Azhar Mahmood. Akram joins from Sussex, qualifies to play for England even though he has played test cricket for Pakistan. This means he does not count as an oversees player.

Azhar Mahmood has been an oversees player at Surrey for two seasons and has signed up for another season. He was voted team player of 2004 after taking 58 wickets in the county championship.

Akram, took 43 wickets in the championship last season for Sussex, has also played for Northamptonshire and Essex, signs a three year contact.

Saqlain Mushtaq has not been re-signed as an oversees player because of a knee injury. Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble are at the top of the list to replace him.

Surrey have also offered two year contracts to Richard Clinton and Nayan Doshi. Youngsters Danny Miller and Jade Durnbcah, who is a product of the academy, have also been offered new contracts.
