Suurey openers in a spin

Surrey openers Scott Newman and Richard Clinton recently went to Bombay, India in an attempt to improve their handling of spin bowling.

They attested a clinic run by the World cricket Academy in the centre of Bombay at the Brabourne stadium, which was once a test venue. The pair attended this clinic for ten days between January 2oth and the 30th. They were not the only players to attend with players from Sussex, Warwickshire and the MCCC also attending. England opener Andrew Strauss has also attended this clinic along with other English county cricket players including Lancashire captain Mark Chilton.

The players were made to bat for a large period of time in the nets on a day to day basis while playing some of upcoming young spinner selected from Bombay’s strongest clubs. These sessions were run by eight of Indians top batting coaches who worked with the players on a one to one basis. Players were videotaped each day and the footage was then analysed by coaches

Newman and Clinton, as well as the rest of the squad begin pre season training on the 1st of March.
