Surrey win in thriller

Surrey beat Yorkshire by three runs in a thrilling day night game at Headingley. Surrey made 264 as Rikki Clarke top scored with 90. Phil Jaques looked to have done enough to give the tykes victory with 98, however when he was dismissed the Yorkshire batting collapsed.

Surrey won the toss and decided to bat. Openers James Benning and John Batty got the Surrey innings off to a good start as they put on 111 for the opening wicket. Benning was the first to go as he was caught by Bresnan with Dawson taking the wicket. Batty was next to go as he was caught by Jaques off the bowling of McGrath. Newman and Brown both fell cheaply to Dawson and the lions were left 127 for 4. Ramprakash and Clarke then added 99 to help Surrey reach 226 for 5. Just one later and Mahmood fell to Harvey. However Rikki Clarke was still at the crease and he helped Surrey reach a total of 264 as he scored 90 not out from just 71 balls.

The Yorkshire reply did not start well as Matt Wood fell first ball to Mahmood as he was caught by Salisbury. Jaques and Lumb then added 93 for the second wicket. Lumb became the second man to fall when he was caught behind with Clarke taking the wicket. Jaques was joined by McGrath and together they looked to have won the match for the phoenix as they put on 133. However when Jaques fell 2 short of his century to Azhar Mahmood, the Yorkshire bating collapsed as they were reduced to 260 for 6.A tense finish was in stall as the needed three from the last ball. However Bresnan was bowled by Nayan Doshi for a duck.
