Surrey draw with a Bang

Surrey drew with Bangladesh A after there tour match at the Brit Oval. James Benning made 124 in the first innings, while Mark Butcher made 90 in the second on his return from injury. Andy Hodd also impressed with a half century in both innings.

Day One

Surrey made 336 for 5 declared after James Benning top scored with 124. Richard Clinton (56), Andy Hodd (57 not out) and Ian Salisbury (59 not out) all hit half centuries. The only disappointment was that Mark Butcher only made 5 on his return from injury.

Bangladesh A were 45 for no wicket with Shahriar Nafees and Mehrab Hossain at the crease.

Day Two

Surrey bowled Bangladesh A out for 336. Tushar Imran top scored with 70, while captain Shahriar Nafees and Nazimuddin both hit half centuries. For Surrey Saqlain Mushtaq took three wickets on his return to the club.

In reply, Surrey were struggling at 88 for 3, with Newman, Clinton, and night’s watchman Neil Saker all out.

Day three

Mark Butcher and James Benning took the score to 184, with a partnership of 106. Benning had made 51 before he fell to Syed Rasel with Shahriar Hossain taking the catch. Youngster Rory Hamilton failed for the second time in the came as he fell for just 89. Butcher was the next man out for 90 as Talha Jubair calmed his fourth wicket of the innings. Butcher will not be too disappointed about missing out on a century as he was able to spend valuable partnership at the crease. Hodd and Salisbury then took the score to 332 for 6 with a stand of 91, when Butcher decided to give the lions some bowling practice as he declared over tea. Hodd hit his second half century of the match with 55 not out while Salisbury scored 44 not out. This was there second unbroken stand of the innings

Bangladesh A made 113 for 1, when a draw was called with Shahriar Nafees the man out for 63 as he was caught by Butcher with Saqlain Mushtaq taking the wicket.
