Sorry Surrey Stuffed

Surrey suffered a humiliating defeat in the C and G trophy at the hands of Essex at Chelmsford. Surrey were bowled out for just 128 with Rikki Clarke the only batsmen to show some resistance with 40. Essex reached their target in just 15.3 overs as Mark Pettini hit 57.

Essex won the toss and decided to bowl. Surrey had a bad start as James Benning was removed first ball as he was caught behind with Bichel taking the wicket. Batty fell the same way as Surrey were left 20 for 2. Walters was run out for 16 and Gough trapped Newman leg before wicket for 11 as Surrey were left 37 for 4. Hamilton Brown and Clarke added a vital stand of 45.

Hamilton Brown fell for 17 when he was adjudged leg before wicket to Napier. He also took the wicket of Clarke for 40, to leave Surrey 95 for 6. Middlebrook took the next wicket of Murtagh and Tim Phillips took the last three wickets as Surrey were bowled out for just 128.

Mark Pettini gave Essex a flying start as he hit 50 from just 19 balls, which included 10 fours and one six. Darren Gough also got stuck in as he hit 20 from 20 balls. Jade Dernbach took three wickets, but Essex still managed to reach their target from just 15.3 overs. The game ended when Foster hit Saker for a six, who made 35 not out from just 29 balls.
