Renshaw in for injured Abell, and Jamie Overton for Josh Davey also injured.
I hope that a - both injuries are not serious, and b - Jove can bring the control that Josh has exhibited.

Looks like a decent effort, in amongst some carnage, from Max here.

Under 350 probably so is this a decent first half or have we left Sussex get away from us?
Anthony reckons we can chase down this score but should they have got to this?

Looks like Jason's strange decision to abandon his previously announced plan re: Jamie Overton has rather proven that the original plan was the right one..
Can't be picking a specialist bowler and then only getting three overs from him?

20 or 30 runs more than we should have let them get I feel.
Chaseable (is that a word?) of course, but we need a solid start

That’s a pretty stiff target, but within reach if we bat to our capabilities.
Some of the bowling was a bit scratchy at times, albeit Max did well.
We stuck at it in the field, although the atmosphere wasn’t quite so ‘buzzy’ as Sunday.
Can’t see much wrong with the pitch, so fingers crossed......

I think they got away. Luke Wright did.
Max improved but batting has to be solid to win this. I saw very little of the middle innings press I have to say.
Jamie not ready? But who was going to take that place?
We have no Dom, Jack, Josh, Tom or Meerkat? Who could have stepped up? Did we have to play Jamie?
With the injuries, was it sensible to 'rest' Lewis (still worried about the fact that I have heard nothing of him signing - is he on his way out?)

A good score but definitely not one beyond our compass in these conditions. AntGib makes Sussex only narrow favourites which strikes me as a pretty sound assessment.
Smart bowling by Max. I wasn't entirely in agreement with some of Somerset's other tactics; Craig's full-and-wide line was OK as a general principle but to my mind over-rigidly adhered to - a few times with the batsman shuffling across outside off he could have had him with a full one on middle-and-leg.
The name Burgess on a Taunton scorecard must have roused a spot of nostalgia in a few besides myself. The new model appears to be somewhat taller and rangier than his predecessor but hits the ball about as hard.
Terrific knock from Luke Wright - funny thing, I've noticed Paul Collingwood almost invariably performs well against us since his withdrawal from the international scene. Not that I'm suggesting there's any connection, but maybe pouring ridicule on the heads of good cricketers whom we (rightly or wrongly) believe to have been promoted above their proper level is not such a good idea? (edited for typo)

Grockle - Yes, I, too, suspect LG is on his way out. Another one to join Giles/Warks, I suspect, whose desperation to sign players leads him/them to them throwing stupid money at people. The club have said that 'If LG leaves then it won't be because of money,' but, unless they're prepared to guarantee to match any outside offer, is almost certainly a misleading and foolhardy statement, given that SCCC have no way of knowing how much possible suitors such as Warks, Lancs or Hants might be prepared to offer. As I say, unless the club is prepared to guarantee to match any outside offer that LG might receive (which itself would, arguably, be a foolish stance) then the club's statement was almost certainly unwise?
Is Van Meekeren injured, then?
But the answer to the question of whether we 'had,' to play Jamie is still, surely, "no," given that, without him, we had five front-line bowlers, plus two others that could bowl if absolutely necessary (Myburgh, Renshaw).
That's unless we not only had no other bowlers available, but also no other batsmen--- but that seems demonstrably untrue, unless Byrom, Bartlett, Rouse, Green etc have all gone down injured (unbeknownst to me)?

The answer to my own question, was that Van Meekeren is not injured:
[live.nvplay.com]
Perhaps his form may not be much better than Jamie's, at the moment but at least he's been fit for a long stretch, so PVM's fitness is, presumably, not in doubt.

I think captaincy and 2020 may be in Lewis' mind as well as money.
Not a problem to play Jamie then surely whether he was ready for 10 or not if we had '5 frontline bowlers' as well as him.
I'm not sure you can say it doesn't matter in one post when you have just posted that you can't play a specialist bowler if he only gives you 3 overs so I'm not sure that your criticism of Jason's decision holds.
I'm assuming he was gambling for more but it wasn't there and he got an answer to his question. Now we may need Jamie's batting so he could still contribute greatly to this game.

Was Jamie "not ready", or was he ready but just didn't bowl particularly well?
Given that Craig, Tim and Roley were all going at 7-8 an over, I'd have felt inclined to try Jamie for one more and see what happened - on the other hand, if 7-8 is pretty much par in these batting conditions, one over from Jamie costing 15 could have been crucial, so a tricky decision.
I guess Ben Green could have been given a go - but my impression is that Jamie is pretty much match-fit and Pete felt that giving him another bowl towards the end would have been too much of a gamble.

I think the point is, surely, that Jason had said that Jamie 'needed the seconds game' (the 3 day one currently being played vs Glam) before he'd be ready to come back. If he needed the seconds game, that surely suggests that he wouldn't be ready until after he had had it (and even then, perhaps, only if it had gone well). I wonder if Jamie will now be parachuted into that seconds game in time to bowl in the Glamorgan second innings?
My point, Grockle, wasn't that only having Jamie bowl 3 overs was the end of the world for the team (as we did, indeed, have 5 other bowlers) but that one cannot justify picking a specialist bowler if he's only going to be deemed worthy of bowling three overs. Given that he only bowled three overs, his selection was not justified and either a different bowler (Van Meekren, perhaps?) could have played or the team could have decided that it was happy with 5 bowlers and picked a batsman or, indeed, an all-rounder.
