RLODC RIP WTF?

So the ECB has decided that rather than having to compete with the 50 over competition during their '100' initiative, they will make the RLODC a 'youth development' tournament with no senior programme for it to 'develop' into.
We may very well celebrate England taking their second 'World' championship by eradicating that format from domestic cricket to make our cricket 'better'.
It also means that during the '100' there will be no competitive cricket in a national format at any other grounds in the UK except in the evenings at the 8 urban 'franchise' venues.
Let me let that sink in.
No premier league cricket at the grounds in Essex, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Durham, Somerset, Worcestershire, Kent, Northampton, Sussex or Gloucestershire during the months of July and August in 2020 - or I would expect for the foreseeable future
What are you members going to do for the summer next year? Prep the thermals for the CC1 part 1 and the rain gear for CC1 part 2. Not sure where the T20 'seconds' competition is going to be but that will be at night to justify the floodlights.
I've asked how Somerset rate their decision to not 'rock the boat' over the ECB's plans like Surrey. I am sure they still believe their 'yes' vote was in the county's best interests - I can't wait to hear the justification that comes at the next Q&A.
They have a twitter trend of hashtag'weareSomerset' replace the a with another we and it becomes hashtag'wewereSomerset'. I think that will be more apt for the 2020's.
The Doors 'This is the end. Beautiful friend. The end.'

If the ECB have a blueprint to destroy cricket as we know it they are being mighty effective.

It has also mucked up Somerset's hopes of income generation which I am certain was part of the Nash/Lavender 'yes' vote.
The RLODC was still going to be about in a place with no other 'premier' sporting events and with little hopeful claims from the '100' draft.
But now the comp has been downgraded, that revenue inflow is also significantly downgraded.
Whoops. What did Nashy say? He'd voted for the 'good' of the whole game? Then the second vote waa made to keep the 1.3m bung stable.
Well played ECB. Done the counties up like kippers.

If the reality turns out to be as reported, this will be absolutely gut wrenching.
How exactly are England to prepare for future ODI’s if there is no domestic 50 over competition ?
Empty County Gounds for months of peak summer and contracted players kicking therir heels, whilst frustrated supporters look for some meaningful cricket outside of the M Mouse variety.
My decision to invest in a SCCC life membership a couple of years ago now looks pretty daft.
Has there ever been a more contemptible sports controlling body than the ECB ?
Can anyone see anything positive to come out of this mess ?

Please don't forget that the ECB are "the counties."

Not any more Clarence seemingly. The ECB seem to see only 8 grounds they are taking away from their counties and one competition they have already taken out of county control.
You seem to have made the same mistake that county chairs have made. You assume that the ECB has an overview of the game that supports a national domestic coverage and more than one format. It would therefore work with the counties to develop that.
In reality the ECB seems to see cricket as a one format marketable TV package for 2 months between the football season with no present discernable fanbase and archaic rules that put off the young.
They didn't seem to mention this to the counties while they manipulated the inexperienced and insular officials and persuaded/bribed them to give away their power and finally their game.

The beginning of the end I think.
With no income for those vital high summer months, all those listed are doomed.

Think so. Long summer days of watching the battle between leather and willow are going to be replaced by pseudo plastic franchised 'Tsomething' baseball open to the will of sponsors and media companies before becoming subsidiaries to the global machinations of the Mumbai Indians or some such.
I'll be done with it long before then and the women and kids who don't presently understand it can have what it is turned into and welcome.

Thing is, I love T20. It’s the one form of cricket I can take my other half to & she genuinely enjoys it. It’s a long drive for me to get to Taunton so i tend to get to more away CC matches early season & risk the drive during July/August for T20 when the weather is better. But I’ve absolutely no interest in the new competition at all, so I guess it’s the beach for us instead.
Can you imagine football clubs being told that for 2 months of the season there’s going to be a regional competition over 60mins & the Manchester clubs are combined etc etc. However the big difference in cricket is the potential tv market hasn’t reached its maximum by a long stretch. ECB & tv don’t care about the regular fans if there’s a chance to sell it to the masses on tv. Football clubs have already done this to a large degree & the fans stil keep coming, even if places like Old Trafford are as much for tourists as the old school fans almost priced out now & struggling with the travel due to games being moved for tv. Maybe in time they’ll have their elite 8 or so counties with the star players & the rest are minor league level. The scary thing is it is actually possible

i enjoy the cut and thrust of a good T20 too but it is not the only cricket. The footy analogy has some truth but is is built on the fanbase that was already there and over a century of history. It has also worked to develop its brand across the world, not restricted development to 8/10 countries and kept it all in house
However, in relation to cricket the effect is more like the Premier League suddenly deciding that 5 a side is the future of football and 11 a side has had its day, creating an indoor league played in 8 hockey stadiums and pumping all its money into that and selling ONLY that to TV while marginalising and binning all other competitive versions of its old product.

Not seen it myself, but I gather that one occasional contributor to this board and our former Chairman had a Twitter blow-up about this on the basis of why, in God's name, our idiot (then) board voted this absolute garbage through, completely ignoring the views of the members in the process.
As I remember it, in Mr Nash's immortal and, oh-so-sagacious words:
"You can't say that we've run roughshod over members, because members expressed their opposition politely."
By that logic, had members' rioted in the long-room, then you could say that the board had "run roughshod over members' views."
This may very well have been the most utterly specious and vacuous attempt at self-justification that I have ever heard.
If only members had known that all they had to do was to don their Gillets Jaunes and break a few windows....
And, yes, I know that Mr Nash has since "repented," but the damage has long since been done, and criticising the oh-so-loveable Mr Graves now, is slamming the stable door after the hooved creature had long since vacated the premises.

That £1.3 million p.a. will be very useful- but I am not sure for what, other than paying the wages of players in their enforced idleness.

It's a 'development' grant it seems LoL as far as I can see. Funds the 'non' 100's to develop players for that white ball tournament it seems.
Will there be Blast! and RLODC Finals in 2020? Anywhere near Lord's if there are?

They'd already announced that the RLODC would no longer be at Lord's from 2020. Next year (and the following few years) the final will be at Trent Bridge.

Let’s face it, 2019 is the last year of proper cricket as we know it, before the ECB begins the process of winding down the sport outside the TMGs.
It would have been great to have won the CC in any year. But which year could be more perfect to win it in than this one, sticking one finger into each of Mr Graves’ eyes in the process?
