Congratulations to Tom Abell, Dom Bess and Peter Trego, who have been named in the MCC XI to play last year's champion county Surrey in the traditional season-opener match, at the non-traditional venue of Dubai, starting on March 24.

Dom did rather well in this fixture against Essex last year. I remember a lower order ton

Interesting selection of Trego, who barely played any Red Ball cricket last year and will play even less this year!

Yes, good to see SCCC well reprsented.

I notice Somerset's their last game in their Abu Dhabi tour starts on 19th March & is scheduled to last three days, so should end at least two days prior to the MCC fixture.

As Dubai only appears to be 1 1/4 hours by bus, wouldn't it be simpler & cheaper to have the entire MCC team comprise of SCCC players ?!

It's a 90 minute journey from stadium to stadium

Three other counties on the tour (Essex also have three representatives in the MCC team)

Today was also staff and some players cleaning day.

Some were using a a jet washer to get the green slime off the concrete steps in the stands, others were sweeping the muck from the other stands. They didn't need a hosepipe with the rain coming down.
They were installing the electronic advert boards around the boundary edge.

Very sad to hear that Brian Daw has passed away.
A good servant to the club for many years.

RIP

Brian was what county cricket clubs are all about.
A real gentleman, always had time for a chat with anyone.
A regular face at home & away games over his 10 years as Taunton area rep. And for decades prior to that as a genuine supporter.
He had a real passion and love for all things Somerset cricket and county cricket.
Sincere condolences to Sally & the family, the club has lost a truely great man today.

As a little pre season aside. Does anyone remember a Geordie footy player who played for Bristol City...late 70's or maybe early 80s called Bobby Ward?

Ben Warren and his Social media team have put Somerset on top of the league of major sports organisations developing their media output. Somerset above major premier league football and rugby teams in the report. (I'll find a link). We are lucky to have him. Well done Ben
