New thread for tonight and possibly Sunday's game for the 'mobilers'. Please use this one for match specifics so they don't have to scroll through for hours.
With the video link etc attendance on the thread during the games tends to slow down but it still gets comments.
Weather pre lunch in West Somerset is sunny with midway broken cloud. Humidity could ratchet up if the cloud closes in but hopes are it will stay dry.
No new team news. The team pretty much picks itself from the squad announced I think.
Ben Green and Jamie O to miss out for Game 1?
Unless they have a plan for Jove..... in which case one of the spinners will join Ben.... Dom or RvdM.
Not sure I hope they have a Jove plan or not I suppose we'll see it if it happens.

Agree Grockle.Dont really think Jamie has enough. Variation for this format, and tendency to lose his head a bit and bowl too short.
Would definitely go for the 3 spinner option

Before tonight a lookback to a different time:
40 years ago in the 1978 John Player League Gloucestershire played Somerset at Bristol. Somerset won the toss and put Gloucestershire in. More as a result of pitch or weather conditions in those days I imagine than any theory about chasing being the better option. Perhaps rain threatened. In those days the chasing side in a rain reduced match simply had to beat the run rate of the side batting first however few overs remained. No DLS.
Five bowlers each bowled eight overs. Cricket seemed so much more orderly then.
Dredge and Moseley opened the bowling. Dredge bowled his eight overs for 19 and Moseley took 3 for 28. Burgess took 1 for 22 and Jennings 1 for 11, and yes, he bowled his full eight overs. Put another way he went for 1.4 an over although no-one spoke of economy rates in those days. And bowlers still bowled maidens in limited overs matches. Jennings bowled three and Somerset bowled six in total. Will Somerset bowl six maidens in the entire T20 tournament this year? Viv Richards took three wickets at the truly profligate cost of 32 runs and Gloucestershire batted the full 40 overs for 125 for 9. Will there be a score of 125 in the full 20 overs in any T20 match this season. Different times indeed.
Somerset ended on 126 for 2 after 31.3 overs. Brian Rose batted through the 31.3 overs for 49 not out, putting on 68 for the first wicket with Peter Denning. Richards probably disappointed some who had travelled miles to see him by being out for 15. Somerset ended with Rose and Roebuck seeing them home.
One curiosity: Vic Marks played in the match but did not bat, bowl or take a catch. Perhaps he injured himself early in the Gloucestershire innings and Viv Richards stepped in to the spinning shoes. Or perhaps someone was there and knows.
Where did Somerset finish in the John Player League in 1978? Second. Where else?
As to tonight I have one firm prediction. The match will look nothing like the 1978 one.

Thanks Farmer - that 1976-9 vintage was the first Somerset team I watched regularly - tho don't think I'd have been at that Bristol match. Great days - pints of Carling Black Label to celebrate any Moseley, Dredge or Jennings wicket.

We will not go 3 spinners today.
Jamie will play.
Dom & Ben to miss out from the 13.
Lovely day for it.
Lets hope stewards and supporters alike can master this letter & number lark for their seating.....

I have a feeling Dom and Josh will miss out. Is the stream available for T20s?

Well Jamie is on on the scorecard (though that does change at times} and Dom is 12th man.
The side published is;
Myburgh, Davies, Trego, Hildreth, Gregory, Abell, Anderson, RvdM, Davey, Overton, Waller
I thought they might leave out Dom if a spinner had to go because Roelof is that wildcard that can do amazing things in these little games.
Well Mr Overton lets put the fear of God up them then!!
I have to agree with CH's description of the temporary stand. If that is what they are planning, it does have a reassuring 'classical' look to it

It is weird being in here at 4:00 with very little in terms of a crowd. Many many stewards to help members find seats in those areas of the ground they have been largely unaware of in the past.

I can’t understand why people were queuing from 3 o’clock when they have a reserved seat unless of course they are all life members heading for the best seats on Gimblett Hill. Sitting around in this heat for two hours before the game starts must be a strange way to spend an afternoon.

Well it's 5:05 and the ground is less than 40% full at the moment. Unless loads are in the bars.
Opinion is that we are chasing because we have faith in batting but need to suck it and see with bowling. Klinger Night or not Klinger Night?
What do we reckon par is for T20? 190ish?
The Somerset team is as posted earlier. Dom is 12th man.

60% full at the start. The Gimblett is decidedly empty.
Waller is going to open from the Pavilion to Hammond.
Floated wide one and it goes for four.
If you are watching the feed. Gloucs are playing in our shirt from last season!!
