Somerset have six (SIX) bowlers in the top 20 of the CC1 averages!

In the other matches I see Hampshire, the only other team to win their first match, are looking by the far the most likely to lose their current one (and, surely, stone-cold certain not to win it) - so whatever happens we will be top by at least ten points when the current round finishes.

I hope I never hear again from other county supporters that Jack Leach can only take wickets on Taunton pitches!!

What a great win after a shaky start. Is this the year?

@Mike his six-for at that famed Bunsen Headingley didn't stop them so I doubt this performance will!

Difficult to see much than draws in other games

Not so sure about that - Hants need another 107 to avoid the follow-on against Yorks and if they fail to do so will have to bat out all of tomorrow (though tail-end batsmen being what they are now, and with Barker at 10, making the 107 seems a lot less unlikely than it once would); and Warwickshire have (eventually) been made to follow on against Kent and have lost one wicket already.

Best hope for a result in the Surrey-Essex games would seem to be a Surrey third-innings collapse - one can dream...

Btw as my XI won can I now claim the credit?

...oh, and well said CJM in your post of 15.10 about our young home-grown, or at least home-trained, players.

I see that Liam Dawson, having bowled as many as 60 overs, then made 50 odd with the bat. Some sort of ‘iron man,’ award for him may be in order..

I'd settle for a tube of Ralgex and a large leisurely drink.

Jack L in, but who is to miss out ?
Surely not GB after his match changing innings. Perhaps more likely to be EB who carries the drinks ?

Can I claim it as well Mikeindex ?!

Not in retrospect I am afraid Grizzz. Mikeindex did take the responsibility and would have got the flak had it all gone wrong.

Please feel free to claim the next one.

Good to see Jack Brooks say that we should have actually held Notts to a lower first innings total (we actually bowled too many four balls in the first dig). That’s precisely the kind of self-critical attitude that the best teams need to have.

I see Notts head coach Peter Moores has admitted that Joe Clarke had found it difficult to concentrate on cricket. Earlier in the week, he had given evidence at Worcester Crown Court at the retrial of his former Worcestershire colleague, friend and flat-mate Alex Hepburn, found guilty of raping a sleeping girl at his flat.

Why on earth was he playing then?

Crikey we are a good team now!

Spent an extremely enjoyable 3 days (well 2.5) at Trent Bridge watching us ruthlessly tear Notts apart.
7 championship wins in a row now v Notts, hope it doesn't rain for the home match!

Following us away is a real pleasure.
Our travelling support is really quite something.
Hundreds of familiar faces, and the best thing is no moaning!
People who follow the team away make a real effort, time, money etc. They do so due to a real SUPPORT for the club and their team.
Plenty of Notts home moaning but i can cope with that!

I was lucky enough to bump into and chat to so many like minded "supporters" of the team, Mr&Mrs Parsons, Tractor, Farmer, Mr&Mrs Bartlett (very proud parents on day 2) Mr Overton, Polly the scorer, and several others i dont know the names of but are friendly faces who share the same support of our players.

There will be bumps along the way, but we have a great bunch of lads now all pushing each other, come September things just might start to get very exciting.....

It will, most likely, all depend, on replicating the focus and intensity of that Bartlett/Abell partnership on a more regular basis - and at key moments during games.

Provided Jack isn't taken away for pointless drink carrying sessions with England (one assumes they'll still pick Mo in the XI when only one spinner as always neurotic about batting and Mo a good batting record at home), then we would seem to have the attack to keep most sides under pressure in most conditions.

It sounds like A A Donald, a fearsome fast bowler, was impressed with those he saw working off to the side of the Kent game (in addition to those that played), pointing to our having a pool of bowlers which we can rotate according to form, fitness and conditions.

Finally, one has to say a very big well done to Andy Hurry and Jason Kerr who seem to be alone, within the past 15 or so years in finding the answer to getting this side to actually start seasons properly!! Brian Rose couldn't do it (apart from one year in CC2) and Messrs Maynard and Nosworthy most certainly couldn't do it. So very well done indeed to Andy and Jason. And well done to the briefly tenured Mr Cooper for ending the Maynard reign, and installing the current regime.

Lol — my quote was from 9 April Grockle.

But I’m happy to relinquish any claim on the basis that I usually get it wrong anyway.

Cracking result though !

Yes, great result and great performance.

I agree, AG, with your comments about Andy Hurry and Jason Kerr; but I would also give credit to Tom Abell - and I’m sure that others deserve credit too.

Yes, indeed, although - if memory serves, I think Tom's appointment pre-dated Andy's by one year. But one imagines that Tom has certainly played a big role, too. IOW... I think that, in their current roles, Andy and Jason have a 100% record of getting the side off to fast starts, as opposed to the 0% record of their predecessors.

Of course, it may be that some of the playing group have matured and developed with age and that may have also played a big part.
