Jack Brooks and Josh Davey have been added to the Somerset squad for the championship match with Nottinghamshire starting on Sunday. Craig Overton will have a late fitness test on his troublesome groin injury.

I’m starting to worry about Cove’s groin. Starting to fear that, if it doesn’t resolve soon then we might hear something unwelcome re:extended layoff, procedure to fix it etc.

If he’s not fit for the Yorks’ game, then for God’s sake don’t risk him in T20 - we’d want him fit and firing for final 4 CC games.

Craig did bowl a little along with Jack Brooks at the the end of the Hampshire match, although off a very short run up.

The bottom line is we must win this game, otherwise our interests in Essex will grow stronger.

Recent form has suggested wins come quicker than expected and those attending day 4 aren't likely to get a full day of cricket.

Although Cove is the Master Bowler, I am not overtly worried if he doesn't play given every bowler is firing now on all cylinders.

We seem to have also produced some great championship pitches recently and Notts will have nothing to moan about.

Somerset haven't lost at Taunton for a very long so this is the default.

Our bowlers will ensure the wickets keep falling. There is plenty of desire to take the next one.

The Achilles heel is of course the top order batting, so that is where we must ensure no complacency. But the Hants game showed when the sun shines then even Azhar can make runs.

Our recent success has been built upon batting first. Notts haven't won this season, perhaps we can risk putting them in first if there is a toss?

However, the worst case scenario for me would be if we did this and couldn't make enough runs.

Prediction - Somerset Win, Essex Win

Sibley and Jeetan P give Warks an outside shot. Jeets is in good form, and track will definitely turn. The Warks pace attack has been in shambles, though, so Essex definitely strong favourites.

As for us, we shall, indeed, have to hope our top order don’t cock it up. Broad’s absence should help, I’d think. All 3 current members of it should be feeling better after the Hants game, than they were before it. Tom has runs vs Notts this season to look back on and Hildreth many years of runs Vs Notts, albeit more at TB than here.

We should, indeed, win but Notts have enough players to give us big trouble IF we let them into the game early on. If we get on top early? I’d expect Notts to fold.

Yorks have Sibley and Jeetan Patel on loan, when they heard Bess wasn't leaving Taunton tic

New Zealand have arranged two tests and 3 one day games against Sri Lanka in August, Would that mean Jeetan Patel will be unavailable against us?

Jeetan Patel may or may not be called up by New Zealand. But Warwickshire, who were without six front-line seam bowlers injured and Chris Woakes away at the World Cup when they drew a high-scoring match with Kent this week, look like having a much stronger bowling attack when they play Somerset next month.

England fast bowler Olly Stone is in the squad for the first time this season at Hampshire tomorrow, and quickies Henry Brookes and Oliver Hannon-Dalby also return to action.

Can’t see no official squad announcement on club website CJM. Brooks and Davey were named in the 13 man squad for Hants game anyway.

J Patel hasn’t played for NZ in an eternity.

Although Warks May have a much stronger attack vs us than vs Kent , only the addition of Stone would represent a change compared to their attack vs us at Taunton

Jeetan Patel - New Zealand two years ago, but during their summer and our winter.

Oh, okay, much more recent than I thought. They could have used him in this Wolrd Cup.

Let’s hope that means his fitness test has already been taken and passed.

My guess......
Jack in lions. Plus Jamie/Lewis (1 of)

We will only go 1 spin tomorrow as frightened of Ashwin plus no Broad.

So Notts 7-11 Lewis Jamie Tim Josh Jack L

Leaving Yorks 7-11 Dom Craig Jamie (or Lewis) Brooks Tim
