This seems to be the side we have been moving towards and it was a defining part of our 2019 season. I'll get the detail together and start the prep for it. But do we have anyinitisl thoughts?

OK. I will start us off. With one exception, I would continue with the same team to sustain the momentum, but I would be looking to rest Gregory after this match. The one exception being Jamie Overton. I would like his back fire in against Essex. A tough call as to who to leave out. But tough calls have to be made. I would leave out Jack Brooks. He leaked runs at Chelmsford last year, conceding at nearly twice the rate of anyone else. Neither did he take a wicket.

Tom Abell at no 5. He has struggled in this competition as opener, but I suspect he will get a big score lower down.

If Carberry is back that would make the swap straightforward (at the expense of Kervezee). Otherwise we could go all Somerset and bring Byrom back as an opener

Well the first thing is that Yorkshire have overtaken us at the top of the table on the basis of having played 7 games to our 6. They have however lost a game where we go into Chelmsford unbeaten. They have an 8 point margin on us more bowling points (21 to 18) but less batting (13 to 19).

MIKE CARBERRY is fit again and we have no injuries pending presently. Full squad people.

If you want to rest Gregory then I think you have to play Bess as a number 7 bat. If you don't want to play Brooks because of last year that would still allow Jamie and Josh Davey to play unless you move Kervezee to 7?

I would keep Gregory for this match because we need our strongest side for Essex and, apart from his bowling and slip fielding, his batting gives us the best balance. Then rest him for the next match because we will need him fresh for Yorkshire away, which I think comes up in a couple of matches. I am assumimg, but don't know, that the software takes account of injury records when I suggest a rest for Gregory at some point.

I can't go many posts without hesitation, deviation or repetition, so...

What are the pitch conditions ?

OK we'll look to get this one off the ground tomorrow morning then around midday so any main suggestions before I start get the side into some kind of semblance of order?

If this come to a vote:

Carberry and Ali to open, with Abell lower down.

Gregory, Cove, Brooks, Jove and Leach to bowl.

Bat first if we can and see how history repeats itself

Sounds like a plan. Any dissenters?

I would have Bess for Brooks. I don't think a single match went beyond three days at Chelmsford last year, one might have just crawled into day four, and Harmer took a shedload of wickets at Chelmsford. 3.5 pace bowlers should be enough. And I like Bess's vim in the field; and with Abell at cover and Bess at midwicket there will not be many quick singles. Pressure will build. Otherwise, that is probably as strong a team as we could put out. Definitely toss, definitely bat if we win it, but then, except on an April geentop under glowering cloud I always would. But here, I would also take into account that in 2019 Harmer took the bulk of his wickets at Chelmsford in the second innings.

Looks like Head Selector Grockle has the casting vote and gets to send the unlucky bowler to carry the drinks

Bloody Cook! But he'll have to do well to parallel Tom Abell's 129* as Somerset clock up over 400 and are 272 ahead with 2 gone at the halfway stage
