So far so excellent. Now for calm heads and positive batting to the end of the day, preferably by these two. And then the same again tomorrow from everyone else. Did someone not once say, "Opportunity Knocks"? And I would add, "To the calmy determined, the prize."

I promise I have made no changes or interfered with this game in any way.

At the end of Day 1 Somerset are 154 for 0. 9 runs in the lead with Tom Banton on 84 and Azhar Ali on 51.

If I was at this game for real I'd be 'quite' excited about the prospects for the result.

Hamlet had a phrase for it:

"To be or not to be, that is the question."

So let us hope there will be none of his, "Slings and arrow of outrageous fortune," "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow," as Macbeth might have added.

Well we bat on into oblivion and then see where we are. Neutralising their first innings score on Day 1 without loss is pretty significant. The maximum bowling points aren't unwelcome either.

Tom doesn't get to 100, Olivier intervenes at 96. But George takes up the cudgel and keeps hitting Yorkshire with it as he moves past 50. Tom Abell and James Hildreth don't really push on but at Lunch Steve Davies is at the crease looking to build on the 90+ of Birmingham.

Somerset go into lunch at 271 for 4. 126 ahead with 6 wickets in hand.

Keep calm and bat on. We still have tomorrow and tomorrow. Even the steady fall of wickets this morning may signify as much help as hindrence.

Well the batting just keeps on coming in this team at the moment.

Steve is on form, Lewis is next and then the Overtons and RvdM can add three figures with Josh at 11!!

it is all looking odds on for at least a draw and some big bonus points

George doesn't get to 100 either. But he does get to 95 before that man Olivier bowls him. Lewis only adds 19 but Steve Davies is going through the gears.

COve is chosen before RvdM - probably to be a more stable partner for the keeper? He also doesn't last all that long before he goes for 13. BUT Steve is accumulating runs and passes 50. RvdM takes the long handle - bad move before Tea as he is out hooking.

Nevertheless, Somerset go into Tea at 393 for 8 (248 ahead) and there are still JOve and Josh to come so there still might be a few runs to come.

After Tea the Somerset tail are unwilling to go quietly. While Steve Davies looks for 3 figures, Jamie takes 35 at more than a run a ball before Josh Davey offers invaluable support that sees the home side to the end of the day with one wicket still required.

Somerset start Day 3 with a lead of 387 but with Steve Davies pretty close to 150. I think I'll let them have a go for that first thing in the morning and then let the bowlers loose.

Anyone not happy about that?

139 runs for the last two wickets and one of them still to fall? Are Yorkshire just demoralised or are we on one of those classic Taunton pitches that flattens in the second half of the match? Thinking of that interminable innings by Vince to save a game at Taunton over the best part of two days in 2018 I do have a thought but no more than a thought.

The last wicket may fall and make all of this academic, but in case not I would declare after six overs in the morning. Take two off for between the innings, that leaves 88 overs in the day. If the match was still in play that would mean eight overs with the second new ball before the close and having it still new enough for a second go with it on the last morning. It would be a bit like having three new balls in the course of 100 overs, two of them with fresh bowlers, which might help given we only have one spinner.

Given Davies is on 141, that may be about where you were thinking of declaring anyway, but I wouldn't let it drag on beyond six overs. Let's assume nothing and maximise the new ball if needs be.

That's about it. I doubt Steve will make it to 150 but he had a big hand in winning the last one and we have the time. Even if the wicket has flattened out, I can't see Yorkshire batting for a little less than 2 days to create a draw or anything like a score to push us into a second innings. They would need close to 600 to create a meaningful target - don't think there is time for that.

Anyway, we will see. I doubt we will survive more than 6 overs and unless Josh hits out early and gets close to 50 as well there would be no point in keeping the innings going.

So about 11 hours of play to win the trophy I think!! Mikeindex did point out this possible conclusion at the start of this.

As I keep saying, I have done nothing to prompt this end result, the PC has created this scenario based on its game engine and the data.

How many bonus points have we picked up? We must be very close to winning the title with just a draw.

One thought I've never had until recently, is of someone from Somerset taking the last wicket or making the winning run for us to take the title. The likelihood now is that will be from a bowler maybe tomorrow. Gregory, vdM, Cove, Jove or Davey. Perhaps Abell will bowl himself for the honours at the end?

But if the match goes to a draw, then the celebrations would be from gaining a bonus point against Hampshire away or maybe Yorkshire slipping up elsewhere.

However being Somerset fans, we need to be aware of all eventualities including Grockle's computer suffering a catastrophic failure caused by something emerging from north west London

I think we have maximum bonus points for this match. I can't see us losing the title IF we win this game. I think we are some 39 points ahead now and Yorks losing here would not have a grwat effect on that while we would add another 20 odd with ONLY 2 games to go. It may have been the case that Yorkshire really had to win this one to stay in the race.

Steve Davies reaches his 150 before Josh is LBW for 28.

Somerset are all out for 547 - 402 ahead and a record 90 run 10th wicket partnership against Yorkshire home or away.

Yorkshire are batting 1 hour and 49 minutes before the lunch break on Day 3 with a mountain to climb to get the draw.

Lunch at 97 for 3 is NOT what Yorkshire really wanted. Long way to 6pm tomorrow and I don't think they'll make it past 250. Somerset would then have a 55 ish point lead with 2 games to go.... It is theirs to take today really.

I think that is it as Yorkshire are bowled out for 183 half an hour before Tea on Day 3

Fantasy Champions 2020! The wait is over.

With 2 games to spare and on this occasion no spin twins. They'll be a few verses of blackbird sung this evening
