Good! He's got a job to do beating Fantasy Yorkshire to bring home the Fantasy Championship trophy in the next couple of days!!

I'm assuming there will be a couple of these to look at everyone?

Not quite on topic, but not far off: We all know that Barbados has produced more test cricketers by far than anywhere else of comparable size and population. I came across a list of all their international cricketers. I was struck not merely by how many they have produced, but by how many of them are indisputably all-time greats, or very close to that, and 12 West Indies captains.

Sir Frank Worrell, Everton Weekes, Clyde Walcott, Roy Marshall, Sir Garfield Sobers, Wesley Winfield Hall, Conrad Hunte, Seymour Nurse, Charlie Griffith (controversial), David Holford (cousin of Sir G), Vanburn Holder, Keith Boyce, John Shepherd, Gordon Greenidge, Wayne Daniel, Collis King, Joel Garner, Desmond Haynes, Sylvester Clarke, Malcolm Marshall, Tino Best, Fidel Edwards, Kraigg Brathwaite, Jason Holder, Sherwin Campbell.

That is just a selection. Six Bajuns who have captained WI I haven't even mentioned.

That Bridgetown group is truly impressive, but surely Bobstan, of all people, can come up with a comparable list of those born in Bridgwater.

(and where is the nicest man among them, Lord Hallam of Moseley?)

Cove gets the first unofficial wicket of the season getting Burns caught behind

Sadly, LoL, only the West Indies selectors can answer your Hallam query. My list was only of international players.

He did have rather a lot of competition for fast bowling WI places! Even at Somerset when Viv and Joel were here and available he was rested as only 2 overseas players were allowed.

Nice to see Cove and Lewis bowling in tandem again.

Bobstan

In 1982 Somerset played the West Indies, describes as a 'full West Indies team', at Taunton in the first floodlit cricket match held at a first-class cricket ground in this country. The match was organised in conjunction with Viv Richards' Testimonial. My memory tells me, although I was not there, that Viv Richards played for Somerset and Hallam Moseley played for the West Indies. Apparently, the temporary floodlights cost the equivalent of 'a small family car'.

Yes, JCB - I mean JCW - that does ring the odd bell with me. Sadly doesn't get Hallam on the list.

Only wishful thinking on my part as far as naming Moseley was concerned. I knew the rules, but our Hallam deserved higher honours than he ever received.

Yes, LoL and one person who agreed with you was Sir Garfield. We are very slightly biased because he was ours and he is a lovely man, but the competition to play for the WI was very fierce.

1 wicket each for Craig & Jamie, none yet for Lewis or Jack.
Runs for Bracey

One of only two dual internationals at cricket and contract bridge (Asantha de Mel of Sri Lanka was the other).

Sad to read of the death of Everton Weekes, the last of the extraordinary Three Ws triumvirate that lit up the world of cricket in the post-war years. Of course, in Somerset we knew there were really 4Ws, for our very own Peter Wight bestrode the cricket grounds of England as brilliantly as any of them (in our unbiased opinion).

Somerset had their own triumverate of great players with surnames beginning witth 'W'. All 3 represented England - though sadly not at the same time, and all have had a book written about them.

I refer of course too Messrs. Woods, White and Wellard.

I regard it as a great shame that I never saw any of them actually play.

We did all see the three T's together though: Tregs, Tres and Thomas.

This year really is the end of an era.
