Some encouraging performance from youngsters in the four-day inter-squad match at Taunton this week, in which Team Abell beat Team Bartlett by an innings and 12 runs.

The newly-graduated Roelof van der Merwe (BSc First Class) added match batting honours also, with 61 and 66 for the Bartlett outfit plus 2-53 with the ball.

However, ii was 16-year-old left-arm quickie (decidedly quickie) Jack Harding from Clevedon who caught the eye with 3-41 when Team Abell batted , while another youngster, England Under-19 left-arm spinner Lewis Goldsworthy was second-top scorer for Team Abell with 59, as well as being among the wickets (3-12).

Encouragingly, Steve Davies was among the runs with 104 on his single visit to the crease, but Eddie Byrom was left with a pair at the top of the Team Bartlett order and James Hildreth garnered just 1 and 5. Six wickets in the two Team Bartlett innings for Jack Davey and Tom Lammonby

Most likely candidate for the opening match against Glamorgan, with Dom Bess and Jack Leach both away with England - yet another Cornish lad, Lewis Goldsworthy.
