Board Presidents XI Squad and Squad for 3 Tests Announced
Rohit Sharma has been named the Captain of the Board President's XI for the warm up game against South Africa. Virat Kohli, of course, leads the Team in the three Test Series. The Indian team will be looking to pick up all 120 ICC Test Championship points as strong favorites, barring weather issues. The focus will also be on Ravi Ashwin who will most likely return to International cricket after about a year hiatus in his best format, Test cricket. The other focus will be on Rohit Sharma and his elevation as Test opener. It will be interesting to see if Rohit opens in the BP XI warm up match too. If he doesn't, then his seriousness about making the Test openers spot his own will be questioned.
India A Squad to Take On SA A Announced
India continue developing bench strength in all formats by hosting South Africa A for a series of 50 over matches
T20I, ODI and Test Squads for West Indies Tour
Virat Kohli retained the captaincy for all three formats, while veteran Wridhiman Saha made a comeback to the Test squad after missing over a year with injury. The other big news was the omission of Shubman Gill from any of the squads and the resting of Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah the world No. 1 bowler in ODIs from T20Is and ODIs. Ravindra Jadeja gets selected for all three formats which is a bit of a pleasant surprise. The squads look well balanced and since the West Indies are lowly ranked in all the formats India should be firm favorites to win in all formats. India will particularly be looking to win however in the Test format as the 2 match series will count towards the ICC Test Championship.
World Cup Final Week of League Play Scenarios
India's loss to England in Birmingham has given the hosts a lifeline to making the semi-finals, while at the same time virtually eliminating Pakistan from the competition. Whether that was the intent of the Indian team is hard to tell, but based on the lacklustre performance with ball and especially with bat, one could fairly entertain that thought. The end of the game was almost as bizarre as the end of Pakistan v. Afghanistan game, and set the tongues wagging about possible fixed matches. Anway the Table below provides a snapshot of where the teams stand as of the last day of June and going into July and the the business end of an overly long tournament. Following the Table, analysis is provided of the chances of each potential semifinalists.
BCCI Announces 2019-20 Home Season Schedule
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on announced the 2019-20 home season which will include 5 Tests, 9 ODIs, and 12 T20Is. This is a much lighter load than a couple of years ago when the home season featured a blockbuster 13 Tests. These Tests are probably part of the New ICC Test Championship plan, so BCCI is limited on how many it can arrange. It will be interesting to see how the ICC Test Championship works out.
India A Teams for Sri Lanka A and West Indies A Series
Good to see the BCCI continue to value India A series and tours. Lots of youngsters like Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari...as well as veterans who are on the comeback trail after injury such as Wridhiman Saha included.
India's 2019 World Cup Squad Announced
Thirty six years after India first won the World Cup it will try to win it again in England. BCCI has picked 4 fast bowlers to assist with the team preparation... not sure what that is about... since we are playing in England not South Africa... but guess it will keep the regular squad members fresh... and on their toes.
