Kevin Pietersen is almost certain to miss the rest of Nottinghamshire's season after fracturing a shin bone. The 22-year-old batsman had been in good form prior to the injury, scoring 639 runs in a 10-day spell including four consecutive centuries and a career-best 254 not out.

The 22-year-old batsman had been in good form prior to the injury, scoring 639 runs in a 10-day spell including four consecutive centuries and a career-best 254 not out.

But cricket manager Mick Newell claims it is "very unlikely" that Pietersen will play again this summer.

He said: "Kevin picked up the injury diving on the square when he was fielding against Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay on Monday.

"Initially we thought the injury was muscular but he went for an x-ray at the local hospital and they discovered a fracture in his left fibula."
