Jeremy Snape has been released by Gloucestershire, who claim a breakdown in relations for their decision not to offer him a new deal.

Jeremy Snape has been
released by Gloucestershire, who claim a breakdown in relations for their
decision not to offer him a new deal. The 29-year-old joined Gloucestershire from Northamptonshire in 1999,
but lost his place in the County Championship side in May and failed to
win back his place. Snape continued to play in the Norwich Union League, but the club have
announced they could no longer justify paying high wages for a player not
guaranteed first XI cricket. A Gloucestershire statement said: "His relationship with the cricket
management over the past 18 months has been very poor and reached a stage
where we don't think it will improve. "Further, competition for places in the middle order and lower middle
order will be fierce next year and we want to give every chance to a
number of young all-rounders with considerable potential. "We, therefore, feel opportunities for Jeremy, particularly in the
four-day game, could well be limited and accordingly we cannot justify the
sort of salary he is entitled to. "He has developed his game a great deal with Gloucestershire and we
wish him every success in the future. "This has been a difficult decision about a player who has performed
very well for Gloucestershire and achieved a lot of success in his four
years with us." Earlier in the week, Snape, who has been a regular in the England
one-day squad over the past year, was strongly linked with a switch to
Durham.
