England Hit By Vaughan Setback

Vaughan has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from knee surgery - and that has hit his chances of being fit for the start of the campaign.

After making progress after the team's arrival last Friday, Vaughan's recovery has slowed and instead of making his first appearance in Thursday's two-day match against Western Australia at the WACA, he has been told to rest.

Vaughan is not even expected to make his comeback in the three-day match against Western Australia at the same venue.

Instead he has been pencilled in to return in the final warm-up match against Queensland in Brisbane - giving him just two innings before possibly entering the opening Test at the Gabba on November 7.

He was given a cortisone injection in his knee to try and speed his recovery and also had an ultrasound and has now been told to stop training for the next few days to allow his knee time to heal.

"He just went off the boil two days ago which is why we've had these medical people looking at him," explained Duncan Fletcher.

"He went off yesterday and had an ultrasound and also had an injection, he's going to have two days off and then they're very confident he'll be ready for the three-day game in Brisbane."
