England Lose To Bradman XI

The tourists' 279 for 8, thanks to Owais Shah's 127 and Adam Hollioake's 53, was not enough at the Bradman XI made 285-4 from 46.3 overs.

Mark Waugh cracked an unbeaten 108 and Jamie Cox made 49.

Shah began with a flurry before stuttering in mid-innings when only 20 runs came from 10 overs in tandem with Ronnie Irani (39).

But a batch of boundaries, including three sixes, hauled him out of the rut and a century stand with Hollioake at better than a run a ball ensured a competitive score.

Hollioake arrived at the crease after a clutter of mid-innings wickets at 142 for four. He hit 17 in one over off Mike Whitney and made his total of 53 in 38 balls.

Then Matthew Hoggard struck twice in his opening spell to give England a good chance of victory, snicking a delivery through Michael Slater's defence in the first over and then defeating Brad Haddin with a slower ball.

That ended a 62-run partnership between Haddin, who made 28, and Simon Katich.

Katich appeared in fine form, tucking the ball square on either side of the wicket before being bowled attempting to sweep left-arm spinner Ian Blackwell for 36.

His dismissal brought home captain Waugh to the crease in contrasting conditions to pre-play.

As the chances of finishing the match receded in the gloom, Waugh flicked Blackwell into the stands at deep mid-wicket.

And despite Hollioake earning a leg before decision against Cox, who made 49 and shared a 114-run stand with Waugh, the Bradman XI ploughed on.

Waugh delivered victory with a six, off part-time bowler Nick Knight to finish unbeaten on 108.
