Sourav Ganguly's side started the day by declaring on 417-8, with Sachin Tendulkar having sent out a reminder of his abilities with a showcase 169 the day before.

Worcestershire's innings started steadily, with Stephen Peters and Anurag Singh putting on 84 together.

Singh was undone by the bowling of Ganguly, the opener edging a short-pitched delivery to Virender Sehwag at second slip.

Peters went on to reach his half-century in tandem with Graeme Hick, but was unable to add to his 50 before he was trapped lbw by left-armer Ashish Nehra.

Ben Smith was next to go, making five before Nehra again did the damage, finding the outside edge for Sanjay Bangar to take a catch at second slip.

Vikram Solanki could only match Smith's total and fell victim to Ajit Agarkar.

He attempted an off drive but edged another catch to the slips, where Rahul Dravid was waiting to gather.

Gareth Batty fared somewhat better, but Hick could not hold things up at the other end as he became Harbhajan Singh's first victim, given out lbw trying to play defensively with 27 scored.

Batty and Jamie Pipe's partnership was more useful, contributing 37 runs before Singh again intervened, this time taking a catch at cover to dismiss Pipe for 12, who had tried to drive a Ganguly delivery.

Batty finished the day on 30, at the crease with Kabir Ali who could not get off the mark before the English summer intervened again.
