Injury Blow For Gough

Darren Gough has been ruled out for the rest of the summer after being sent for a third operation this year on his troublesome right knee.

Gough saw a specialist earlier this week after a two week rest period and was still experiencing swelling and discomfort, prompting England to order further keyhole surgery.

It will rule him out of the remainder of this summer's Test series against India and the ICC Champions Trophy tournament in Sri Lanka next month, leaving the selectors needing to name a replacement for him by August 15.

Gough said: "This is a setback for me and it's going to be very disappointing to miss so much cricket.

"But I know that I can come back from this and at least I now have 11 weeks to concentrate on getting myself ready to have one last crack at the Australians in the Ashes this winter."

Gough has not played a Test match since last summer's final Test against Australia at the Oval and since first sustaining the injury during the final one-day international against New Zealand, has been restricted to only four one-day internationals.
