Royals Beat Foxes In Last Game Of The Season

Worcestershire Royals today fittingly brought the cricket season to a close with a 28-run victory over Leicestershire Foxes.Stuart Lampitt also bid a fond farewell in his last game for Worcestershire before retirement.

Worcestershire Royals ended a fine season today with a fine victory over Leicestershire Foxes at New Road.Although there was effectively nothing to play for,the Royals put in a fine performance to win by 28 runs in Stuart Lampitts last ever game of professional cricket.

Both Kadeer Ali and David Leatherdale made 50's in the Royals total of 255 for 8 from their 45 alloted overs.Fittingly,Ben Smith also finished as top runs scorer in this seasons competition as his main rival,Darren Stevens,fell 3 runs short of Smiths total.

The pick of the Royals bowlers were Stuart Lampitt and Alamgir Sheriyar who both took 3 wickets.Kabir Ali also made a valid contribution as he took 2 wickets.The Foxes never really looked like winning the game as they were behind the required run-rate for the majority of their innings.Good knocks from Darren Stevens and N.Burns (54 & 39 respectively) held promise but the other Foxes batsmen showed little resistance to the Royals bowling attack.
