Imps beat Stamford......just

City fielded 2 different sides against Stamford and whilst the first easily coped, the 2nd tried to throw it away. Goals from Lee Frecklington, Scott Kerr and Leon Mettam gave City a comfortable 3-0 lead before Stamford quickly pulled 2 back with both sides hitting the bar.

City's starting line up was a good look at the first team although regulars Marriott, Hughes, Brown and Birch all absent. The game started slowly with City well on top and they made that domination count on 16 minutes when Lee Frecklington pounced on the goalkeeper's parry to make it 1-0 to City. Beevers had a quick oppurtunity to make it 2-0 when his long range shot sailed over the trees and into the nearby train station. Kerr did make it 2 however when he was played in on goal and smashed home from the edge of the area.

The whole team, other than Raynor was substituted and on came a reserve side and although Leon Mettam made it 3 with a chip over the goalkeeper, Stamford pulled 2 back before the final whistle but it shows that we definately can't rely on our youth team this year.

Overall, there were many positives to be taken out of the first half performance and the difference is amazing as City played on the ground football and looked convincing whilst doing it. It was also not coincedence that as soon as the youth team came on, we were on the back foot.
