Results go City's way

Despite going down to 3rd, City will be delighted that they're now guaranteed to finish the week no lower than 4th. MK Dons went second with a controversial 3-2 victory of Notts County, however, Walsall needed to win to move back ahead of the Imps could only draw at Barnet.

The game at the National Hockey Stadium came to live when the referee awarded County a penalty only to then change his mind after the MK Dons fans had convinced him to talk to his linesman. Not long after that and Matt Somner was sent off for the visitors. Dyer then gave Dons a 2-0 lead before Alan White joined the list of County players sent off. Scott Taylor extended the lead for MK Dons before Jason Lee and Daniel Martin pulled County back into the game, but they couldn't find that 3rd goal.

The other game directly concerning City was Walsall's trip to Barnet. Due to City scoring 14 goals so far this season, Walsall needed to either win or have one of the highest scoring draws in history to move back above the Imps but it didn't start well when Dean Sinclair opened the scoring after 16 minutes. Dean Keates levelled in the second half but the game ended as a draw.

The other result in the division was a draw between Rochdale and Hereford when a 96th minute penalty from Jones for Rochdale equalised a 89th minute Purdie penalty for Hereford.

Those results mean City slip to third with Peterborough due to play Bury tomorrow in which any sort of victory for the Posh would see them go above City but with Walsall failing to win, City have moved up at least 1 place despite of what happens at London Road tomorrow.
