Mixed night leaves playoffs still in the balance

Sean Rigg of Bristol Rovers scored to give the Gas a win that means the Imps are still not assured of the playoffs. It leaves Rovers in 8th place, just one point behind Stockport County in 7th. It was however good news at Gay Meadow as City stay 5th after Shrewsbury suffered defeat to Wrexham.

The Bristol Rovers result leaves them just 4 points behind the Imps with 2 game to play, obviously putting City slightly under pressure. However, Bristol Rovers' final two games are against 2 teams challenging for the title, they entertain Swindon Town on Saturday before travelling to Hartlepool next week. City have a slightly superior goal difference, meaning that Bristol Rovers will have to win both games to stand a realistic chance of overtaking the Imps, although City will guarantee their place in the playoffs with a victory at Grimsby on Saturday.

Shrewsbury Town went into their game against Wrexham knowing that a win would see them overtake the Imps on goal difference. Thankfully Wrexham got the victory meaning that Shrewsbury have wasted their game in hand. They face a touch trip to Hereford on Saturday, followed by the final scheduled game to be played at Gay Meadow against Grimsby.

11 days from now, we will know exactly who are in the playoffs.
