Joachim set to sign within the next 48 hours?

Seriously strong rumours are doing the rounds that Julian Joachim will sign for the Imps before the end of the week. The former Premiership striker is said to be very unhappy at Darlington. The Quakers are said to be extremely unhappy that Joachim drives up from his home in Boston everyday and refuses to move closer to the area, subsequently making him available for transfer.

City have been strongly linked with Joachim in recent weeks and strong rumours on the Darlington Rivals board reveal that the former Leeds, Coventy and Aston Villa start is set to join the Imps for a fee believed to be between £50,000 and £60,000 either late on Wednesday or Thursday.

Darlington have certainly been showing their intentions to challenge for promotion this season, bringing in Pawel Abbott in from Swansea City, a striker proven to score at least 20 goals a season in the lower leagues.

This has left the door open for Joachim to leave after getting into a major dispute about whether he should move up the North East to avoid driving up from his Boston home and City were made favourites for his signature following a recent cash injection from the Jeff Hughes transfer to Crystal Palace. Grimsby emerged as challengers for his signature but has since revealed they have no intention to meet Joachim's wage demands.

John Schofield has already confirmed he will talk to a few players following the return from the successful tour of France. Three of the players believed to be trialists Kevin Smith, Gary Croft and Steve McCarthy. City are also still waiting on a reply from trialist Tonkin, although it is obvious that the Imps are fair from happy that the defender didn't turn up for the tour without telling anyone.

City have signed just one player so far and that was Steve Torpey, who finally scored his first goal in City colours in the 1-0 win over Pau FC last night.
