City make rare trip to 2nd Round

For the first time in almost 2 years the Imps will compete in the 2nd round of a cup competition after being given a bye to the 2nd Round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. City haven't made the 2nd round of any cup competition since losing 5-4 to Fulham in September 2005, but will hope that this will be the start of another cup run for the Imps.

City's best run in the competition in recent times came in the 2000/1 season when the Imps made it to the Northern Final, eventually losing out to Port Vale after defeating Morecambe, Blackpool, Hartlepool and Chesterfield.

Since then the Imps best run has been to the quarter finals back in the 2003/4 season when Halifax put the Imps out.

The other teams from the Northern Section given byes are Bury, Carlisle, Port Vale, Rochdale, Darlington, Leeds and Stockport. The draw for the first round will take place on the morning of Saturday 11th, but City fans will have to wait until mid September to find out their first opponents in the competion.
