City move closer to safety without playing

The results in midweek have gone exactly as the Imps would have liked as both Wrexham and Mansfield Town lose. City could now be safe as soon as Saturday evening and don't even have to win to secure safety as the aforementioned sides have tricky games.

Wrexham were mullered 4-1 at MK Dons on Tuesday evening and stay bottom of the table. The defeat now means that Wrexham can't now surpass City's total of 49 points so far. Their only hope of finishing above the Imps is if they win all their remaining games with City lose their four, whilst also surrendering an 11 goal advantage.

Mansfield Town's defeat at Stockport County sees them remain in the drop zone and they are now 11 points behind City with four to play. Their remaining four games are away at Macclesfield and Dagenham with home games against Shrewsbury and Rotherham in between.

All this means that the Imps need just 2 more points to absolutely guarantee safety. Even if the Imps lose all their games though it is now extremely unlikely that the Imps will be relegated due to tough run-ins for the teams into the bottom 5. Anyone above that can realistically considering themselves safe.
